Bio major, just want to hear your thoughts.

1 Have you visited both campuses?

2 What are your interests outside of academics?

3 How interested are you in academics?

1- Yes. Ups and Downs to both.

2- Interests outside of academics... just having a good time, whatever goes along with that.

3- I like to go out, but school is definitley a priority.

Hm, I would say Berkeley. UCSD is kind of dead. Berkeley is better academically and has a lot more going on than UCSD.

for bio I would suggest UCSD

What about the academics are better? Faculty seem pretty much the same, and the programs are quite similar.

for biology and for job outlook its UCSD all the way.
You can not get a better internship than in the san diego area.
ANd UCSD is well known for its biology program.
Berkeley is Berkeley and its a great school, but based on what i ahve heard, uCSDs biology program is better.

Berkeley is more rigorous academically. Overall Berkeley has better faculty and a better student/faculty ratio.

is it rigorous in a bad way?
the major turnoff at berkeley is that many of their science lecture halls hold ~750 students. Biggest at UCSD is ~400. tell me more about the student/faculty ratio, cause thats not consistent with what i have gathered.

It's a statistic. Berkeley is 15:1; UCSD is 19:1.

U......C.......S......D........UCSD.....fight, fight, fight.

UCSD, Still undefeated in football.

Seriously though, I would go to UCSD for Biology.

Ha, yeah even the teams they actually have are in what, div 3?

division two. and some sports like swimming, for instance, are actually division i.

A few of the biology programs at UCSD are ranked #1 in the nation. It's supposed to be the hottest university for science according to newsweek.

At UCSD you also have local access to different biomes/habitats for biological studies... and for marine biology, the ocean is right across campus.

I think you should consider, ESPECIALLY FOR AN UNDERGRAD, more than just the programs related to the major, etc.

Ditto to what's been said so far.

Also, take into consideration which academic calendar system you think you'd be more compatible with. UCSD is on quarters, while we're on semesters here at CAL. I like semesters, but have no basis for compairison since semesters are all I've ever known. Also, the weather is much better in SD--unless you like the seattle-type rainy cold stuff. (I do) And, Tijuana is closer to SD if you're into that. (i.e. more stuff to do in your spare time).

I have a hard time choosing too... recently, I start asking people's opinions who are in the fields (research and bio-related field). Anyway, I would go down look at the campus before I submit any documents.

what they told me is that undergrad does not matter much, but if you can get a gd grade, it's easier for you to get into better grad school(s). <== any thought about that ?!

btw, that kinda bothers me... ><
it's like undergrad does not mean anything to them at all...
