UCSD or UC Davis

(there's probably already a thread for this somewhere...but oh well.)

I'm majoring in Viz arts/ICAM for SD and Design for Davis.

Went to SD's admit day on the 12th and thot the campus was pretty nice. (I'm in Warren) Didn't like how there weren't any doubles in the rez halls. Right after admit day I was leaning towards SD, like 80%, but now the thrill's wearing off and I'm thinking of Davis again. I'm attending Decision Davis this friday so I'm sure that's gonna sway me towards Davis and then i'm back to square one. The thing about davis is that it sounds like ppl bond better there cuz there's not much to do outside of campus so everyone stays in. Any thots?

academics aside (i know zero about your field), i think san diego wins over UCD. there's just so much more culture and things to do with a bigger city than a little agricultural community that considers sacramento "going out"

and i'm from sacramento, there's a comparative dearth of things to do there!

yes, you'll argue you have san francisco and tahoe, but we can also argue we have LA and tijuana and joshua tree and the mostly-inferior big bear. :)

i was tied UCD-UCSD for ages, since both my parents are UCD alums and i attended picnic day every year. but college is so much more than academics and trying to land a job, it's about challenging yourself outside your comfort zone. and moving to a totally new and exciting place is just step 1!

yeah I like how SD has a lot of things to do outside of campus, but from the sound of it Davis has a lot of thigns to do IN campus and ppl still have fun there even tho the stereotype is that it's just full of cows and in the middle of nowhere...

also it seems like ppl are more in cliques in SD? is that true?

first we get called antisocial, then we get called clique-y? i don't get these UCSD generalizations at all. :/

we'll never be as exclusive as high school unless you consider hardcore sorority girls, gamers, and the like. with a school population of 25,000+, you're bound to find at least a few people you like. you don't even need 50 super-friends to make you happy. in the end, there will probably be a few hundred you know by name, a few dozen you've had real conversations with, and probably less than 20 that you could stand a 5-hour drive to vegas with.

haha just throwing a fear out there :)

I think I've pretty much decided - went to the davis admit day today and yeah it was nice and they were more welcoming (had balloons & signs..lol) but I think I prefer SD. Just the atmosphere & everything put together. :)

wow, now that I've made up my mind, this is all so much more exciting.

thanks for taking the time to answer me, astrina! :) those 2 posts were really helpful!!

no problem :)

i was also going to mention that i went to davis for a visit and nearly died from my springtime allergies. i wasn't willing to put up with that for four years!

AND YAY, WELCOME TO UCSD!!!! i really hope you enjoy it as much as i did :D
