I'm having a hard time coming to a decision. I am leaning slightly towards Davis since I have heard so many good things about it, but the weird thing is that they aren't giving me as much aid as SD, and much more in direct loans. Also, UCSD is giving me the Chancellors Scholarship which seems to have really good benefits, such as the faculty mentor program. So I was wondering which school would be better for me, since I plan to double major in Environmental Science/policy and History. Also, is there anyone who attends UCSD and has received the Chancellors scholarship? I was wondering how useful the benefits are, and if it's worth choosing UCSD just because of that. Also, I have heard of how all people do there is study, and the social scene is pretty much dead.

You got Chancellor's for UCSD and not Regents for UCD?

Most likely this is because he applied in environmental science.

UC DAVIS: The University of California is one of the world's foremost research and teaching institutions, and UC Davis is the University of California's flagship campus for environmental studies. UC Davis is a global leader in environmental studies relating to air and water pollution; water and land use; agricultural practices; endangered species management; invasive plants and animals; climate change; resource economics; information technology; and human society and culture. Information: http://www.ucdavis.edu.

Haha same for me - Chancellor's for UCSD and nothing but lots of loans from UCD.

The Chancellor's Scholarship is a REALLY good deal. It's not just about the money ($5000 a year is already pretty awesome), but Chancellor's Scholars also get PRIORITY ENROLLMENT in classes, which just seals the deal for me! You won't ever have to worry about getting into a class at a time you want with priority enrollment, which would make scheduling enjoyable classes you actually want to take to fulfill your two majors A LOT less stressful.

My high school does its own version of self-scheduling with classes and after four years of going through scheduling with the "alpha-rotation" deciding my time, I am REALLY looking forward to the priority enrollment thing. :)

thanks for the responses, and yes, I did not get regents from UCD. I don't think that it was because I applied for environmental science, since I did not. In fact, my major on my application for Davis was animal biology. It was only recently that I started to be interested in the field of environmental science. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if UCSD is good for environmental science.

but then again, UCD's environmental science program is tons better.. and the hippie atmosphere at UCD is more conducive to studying such things. (i should know, i used to live in davis:))

haha yeah thats what's making my decision so difficult. If I went to Davis I'd probably be happier, but they are giving me way too much in loans. Plus they expect my parents and me to pay around 4000 total, and the majority of the loans they are giving me are Direct Loans. SD on the other hand is not expecting me to pay anything and is only expecting 431 dollars from my parents. Plus they are only giving me 1000 in Perkin's Loans, and the rest is in grants and scholarships. Obviously since I'm planning to go to grad school I figure it's better to graduate with as little debt as possible. So my question is this: how good is the environmental science program at SD, and is it worth it to take on all these loans and pay more money to go to Davis? It seems to be better for my major and I like the environment better (also because it's far away from home). However, I'd like to know if there would be a drastic difference between studying environmental science at SD or at Davis.

Hippie atmosphere, lol. The students at UCD are not hippies anymore than the students at UCSD are all nerds. These stereotypes just crack me up.

bump??????

Academics aside, have you visited both campus yet? What environment do you feel more comfortable in? That should be an important factor also. Does having a beach down the street appeal to you?

No I haven't, but I think I'd feel more comfortable at Davis. The whole college town feel appeals to me, and I want to go to Norcal to see what it's like. The beach appeals to me, but thats only one good thing about UCSD. I heard that it's not good for humanities majors, which is what I'm planning to major in. Does anyone know if Davis gives out Chancellors scholarships also? The benefits of that scholarship that UCSD is giving me seem pretty good since I am planning to go to grad school.

UCSD also has no football team ;)

Collegemom16, not everyone likes or watches football.

Well I don't really care that much about football but UCSD has no "big" sports..

koolaznpygmy, what city are you from? Have you stopped by the UCSD campus yet?

Did you contact the UC Davis financial aid office to see why they gave you so little in financial aid?

Not everyone likes the beach either. I was just pointing out something that was left out in one rather very short description of campus environment above. :)

I've yet to visit UCD, but I have visited UCSD before. From what I can recollect the campus seemed very bland, and I come from a suburban city. I have contacted the UCD financial aid office and they hadn't repackaged my aid according to my revised fafsa but they said that it wouldn't change that much.

Well, campus-wise I would say that if you think UCSD is bland, UCD would probably be just as bland, except over a larger plot of land. I personally don't think either is bland - I like both campuses.

ucsd > ucd

^ any particular reasons why?
