UCSD or UCI?

I dont know which one to choose and sadly i can't visit the colleges during my spring break? any thoughts?
I've heard a lot about how ucsd is really bad on the social life ( uc of socially dead )but it's still ranked very high.
I really wanna go down to socal so it's either those two schools for me. I heard a lot of good things about UCI as well.
My major is chemical engineering.

Is it worth going to ucsd ? :O

^Yes. It’s highly unfortunate you can’t visit them because this would be your true indicator on where you would want to go. I would call UCSD “socially dead” but I would call it less social to say SDSU. Compared to Irvine though, socially I think they might be more or less similar. Maybe somebody else could shine better light on that. But hey, it’s your decision.

it’s a shame you can’t visit. however, as far as SD goes, try to look beyond the socially dead stereotype, starting w/ this thread…

seriously, college is what you make it.

Yeah I haven’t heard of UCI having that great of a social life either. Correct me if I’m wrong, I’ve heard UCI is located in a nice suburb with no huge bar scene, no large downtown party scene, etc. Think about if you would prefer that type of area and Orange County overall, or a big city like SD. it’s all based on your own preference.

the area around UCI is nice and seems pretty new but la jolla is also really nice.

UCSD has a party scene and UCSD has a study scene. you just gotta go out and find whichever one you are interested in. its no del playa where you can walk around and party hop but the parties definitely exist

I completely disagree with the whole “socially dead” stereotype. It all depends what you are into. If you want to party, join the Greek system. Otherwise, there are always some events around to join, and I know a lot of people who go clubbing on the weekends in downtown SD.

I personally do not do much of this, but I have gotten involved in clubs and stuff, and found that to be a great way to meet folks. Also, people around here are generally nice and I’ve started many a conversation with people standing next to me, in a line, etc. I have never been to UCI, but Irvine is a pretty sleepy city. However, I notice that many of my friends here are also enjoying fun social lives. So really, you’ll be okay either way (since you can’t go to tell–and I sympathize, I wasn’t able to visit colleges when I was in your shoes). I know UCSD’s engineering is top rated, though, if that makes any difference. Some of the comp sci people are a little awkward at first (I have friends who do this at both schools), but then later prove to be pretty fun to know. Go with your gut! :D

Okay, honestly “college is what you make it” is an optimistic myth.

There’s so many more factors that contribute to college life other than just personal initiative.

To put it bluntly, college is not what you make it, but how you play the cards you’re dealt with.

UCI food >UCSD food

that’s all i can say xD
