I can't make my decision on which one to go to. Sure UCSD is ranked higher, and I plan on changing my major to poli sci which is really good at UCSD. But Im really attracted to the UCSC campus, chill/relaxed atmosphere, outdoorsy woodland settings etc. I really feel like ucsc fits my personality more, but of course ucsd is much more prestigious. I also got into UCD but I want to kind of be near the ocean/beach. Ahhh what do you guys think?

My personal opinion, don’t base your decision on rankings. It sounds like you enjoy UCSC more, so go there instead! Wherever you feel more comfortable :)

I am from Monterey Bay,about 45 min from Santa Cruz and I go there often. I got admitted into UCSC as well and the campus is great! It feels like your at Day camp with all the red woods, its beautiful. BUT I would choose UCSD over UCSC not only because UCSD is ranked higher, but also there are more course options, more interesting classes, it is in La Jolla, I lived in la jolla the last two years and it is such a beautiful place, close to the beach, and ucsd is a great campus, a great school. My roommate actually graduated from there as a political science major. That is my opinion, but you should choose a school where you would be happiest as well! but honestly, they are both great.

He’s obsessed with rankings–don’t tell him to CHANGE!

Oh I said I was admitted into UCSC but failed to mention I am not choosing to go there, I am going to UCSB but only because UCSB offers a better program for my major

At the end of the day it’s your choice.

You sound like you really want to go to SC, so ask yourself how happy you think you’d be after 2 years at SD. I can’t answer that for you nor can anyone else on these boards. It’s up to you. The CHOICE IS YOURS. CAPTAIN PLANET.

I was thinking of going to SC because of the closeness to the beach but I decided to go to Davis because it is more larger than SC in regards to academics. I want to spend the last 2 years in college getting to expand my knowledge by taking interesting classes. But if you feel SD is right for you, go for it.
