does it matter to medical schools whether we go to a school that has a very strong pre med program or not? i want to go to the University of San Diego, but it's pre-med program is not as developed at UCSD, although it isn't bad. About 30 students are in the USD pre med program and 80% of them get accepted into medical school. USCD on the other hand have 300 students in their pre med program every year but only 50% get accepted into medical school. Should I rely on these stats alone? UCSD will be harder to get a high GPA, but it is a harder school. Will USD still be a good choice, even though their program isn't as popular or as strong? thanks for your help!

I would go with UCSD. UCSD is a great school, but it's still not the best.

University of San Diego (though a pretty good school) is a huge drop down in terms of at least the reputation of the pre-med program.

Even though GPA is important, you shouldn't assume that easier college = higher GPA because you might not work as hard.

UCSD probably has a lower placement rate because of competition, but I still think its worth it.

With that said, go visit both places and see which one you like better. I won't lie to you: GPA and MCAT are more important than university. If you feel that you won't do well in UCSD you should probably choose USD

So, if you ask me, UCSD is the better choice. More difficult, but probably with better opportunities.
