UCSD or UW

I try to make a decision between UW and UCSD (biochemistry major). I'm an international student so it's hard for me to go to both campus. Please help me guys!

no one have idea?

Same here engineering major. I’m also an international student.

…but you cannot make a bad one between these two :-)

I go to UCSD now, but grew up in Seattle near the University District.

You have to decide based on what you like. Factor in weather (grey skies versus blue skies), culture (UW seems more social with the U district and all… though SD isn’t terrible… you have to look a little harder) outdoor activities (surfing, and desert hiking versus mountain biking, deep forest hiking, amble skiing, etc). Also, the city of Seattle has better public transportation, and is more bikable. San Diego is very much spread out, so if you want to go off campus, you will need a car (or a friend with one).

Just some things to consider! Both places are beautiful in their own ways.

thanks a lot

Another note, Seattle is very very green. Not that SD doesn’t have trees or grass, it’s just that Seattle gives off this feeling that a big, nice park can give you. I think SD has easy access to hiking, so there is plenty of nature around SD too. I don’t know about UW’s campus, but UCSD has a pretty spread out campus, with a center area and 6 colleges (all a part of SD) surrounding it.

Also, I forgot to mention the beautiful and relaxing beaches that UCSD has haha. Not that you would be at the beach all the time, it depends on your course load, but the beach is close enough that you can go there easily. By the way, you know that UCSD is in La Jolla and not actually San Diego right? Google map it, it’s 20 mins driving distance from the city of San Diego and 1.5 hours by bus.

I’m an Asian so i’m afraid of cold weather, maybe i should choose UCSD though UW is not a bad choice :(

Maybe you should think about academics? UCSD is pretty well known for their bio or bio related programs.

What about UW? which has better bio related programs?

at the undergrad level, it’s difficult to accurately say what makes a “good program” … you could go off publications, research funding, etc, but hardly any of that affects a college student.

but UCSD has a pretty phenomenal biology department. UW isn’t horrible either, i was considering it for grad school.
