Why? For medicine, the two most important factors are GPA and MCAT.

The only potential (and rather small) benefit is the perceived quality of the undergrad program at UCLA over UCSD for some med schools. Otherwise, I see no reason why UCLA is an automatic winner.

I believe that if you are undecided, going to UCLA would be the best choice, since in case you decide you don't like UCLA then you can transfer to UCSD.

It is easier to transfer UCLA -> UCSD than vice versa, GPA-wise. Don't assume UCSD will be easier to get As, the competition is actually keen here.

Actually, it's not that hard. Yes, it's true that CCC students get priority, but UC students come soon after. And it all comes down to GPA anyway.

Average GPA for UCSD transfer admits was 3.33, compared to UCLA's 3.5-3.6ish range...

I'd take the UCLA offer right away if I were you, just for the experience. Should you not like it, you can look forward to 2 (or more) years at UCSD anyway.

UCLA seems to hold more prestige than UCSD but that's mainly because UCLA has a longer tradition AND they have great sports teams that make them very well-known. but the education u get at either one will be very similar, but the experience would obviously be different. UCSD>UCLA in engineering fields (not all but in general) and if you're into science it's not bad at all. put it this way-neither one will be as hard as berkeley's crazy competition. =P

Generally, from what I know of all three, the competition is slightly worse at Cal. However, UCLA's science courses are not really that much easier, nor are students any less hard working.

Furthermore, students on this site rarely recognize that just because one school's grad program in X is higher ranked than Y's, it doesn't mean that X is better as an undergrad. Undergrads and grad students have very different needs.

the competition is super intense at ucsd too.

i go to ucsd. i got into ucla last year as a bio major. i kinda regret not going.

although both are excellent schools, ucla more highly looked upon. dont ask me why, cus im sure their academics range between worse, same, and better then ucsd. academically i feel they may be the same, but ucla still has higher recognition
