UCSD Pepband

Hey childrens! Who wants to join the most awesome organization at UCSD!?!?!?!?!...................... you all do! So, let me tell you about our band of pep.

First off, there's no requirements or tryouts to join. You just show up and you can start playing. The only fee you have to pay is $45 for your pepband shirts and for music. You only have to pay when you actually decide to join the pepband so you can come out for a short trial period. Practices are every Tuesday from 8pm-9:20pm. The band is really chill and we all have a lot of fun.

Also, we're having a Pepband Retreat for prospective pepband members. I didn't go last year and I don't think I can make it this year, but everybody says it's a lot of fun. It's September 14-15th. I realize that that is before people's move in times, but you'll be able to stay with pepband members before your move in. Check out the information in the link provided and post questions if you have them.

When you say there are no requirements don’t you have to have/know how to play an instrument?

^Nope. In fact, one of our pepband officers last year didn’t play an instrument at all. She was like a groupie. Needless to say, it’s recommended that you know how to play an instrument, but it isn’t necessarily required.

Nobody’s interested in the pepband at all? Come on guys. :(

When do you guys play- like at basketball games or pep rallies?

We play at basketball, volleyball, water polo, and hockey games. And also other various events that happen throughout the year.

Well, here’s another bump for the good old pepband. Seriously guys, if you’re even just a tiny bit interested in joining the pepband or going to the Pepband Retreat, definitely ask me for more information. The pepband survives on new members joining and carrying the legacy. WE WANT YOU FRESHMEN!

This might be a stupid question, but, uh… what’s a pepband? heh

^This.

Is Pepband like marching band?

^Nope. Every few times a year we’ll do some “playing while walking” but nothing like marching. We don’t have to be on step or in lines or anything like that.

WE NEED A MARCHING BAND!!! >.<
I’m an incoming freshman and oh how I wish we had one. I’m considering Drum Corps, but I think I’ve lost my tuba chops…

Is this like a rooting club? Also, if we don’t play an instrument, what do we do? Stand there?

^One guy juggled. One girl was elected as the Pepband Historian so she took pictures of the band. Needless to say, it’s definitely recommended that you play an instrument, but if you really wanted to hang with us, it wouldn’t be a problem. And yeah, we have dumb chants and stuff like that.

Are y’all meeting tomorrow?

Saw the pep band today at RIMAC, it looked like a lot of fun. Is there like, going to be a sign up sheet at a club/organization fair this week?

^Not likely. There’s really no signing up or anything. You just show up and start playing. The best time to come out though would be on Tuesdays from 8ish-9:30pm. That’s when we have our practices. Today I we’re starting at 7:45pm and if you could come out today that would be great. We practice in the RIMAC Green Room which is on the first floor by the arena entrance. You’ll enter through the front entrance (have them scan your ID card), walk down the hall, take the stairs on the left, turn left, go through the door at the end, walk down the stairs, go straight to the glass doors and it will be on the left. And then just tell any random person in there that you’re interested in joining the pepband and they’re likely direct you to Scott who will tell you all you need to know. I’ll put the link for our website that has more info, and also a map to the Green Room. Another thing, don’t worry about feeling like an awkward freshmen, because I totally did last year. At first I was like “Ah, I don’t know how much fun this is” because I didn’t know anybody yet, but once you start talking to people it becomes a lot of fun and I’ve made great friends in the pepband. I hope you at least come out to see if you’ll like it but we understand if you choose not to join!

Would you happen to know if extra saxophones or sousaphones are available?

^I just asked the pepband manager and he said he have an extra tuba but no extra saxophones.

Is this a one year old thread? Of course it is. Is the Pepband still around? Of course they are!!!

Everybody interested should all the previous posts because essentially nothing has changed since last year.
