UCSD/Pepperdine > USC

Hello! Just wondering...which do you think will be easier to transfer to USC from? I am going to be a freshman next year and not sure if I should go to UCSD or Pepperdine. I'd rather go to UCSD because I honestly think i'd have more fun there, but my mom wants me to go to Pepperdine because she thinks academics will be better there then UCSD since i'll need to get at least a 3.6+ to transfer to USC. Also, she thinks this because there are so many more students at UCSD and the competition will be tough, where as Pepperdine, there are much fewer students since it's a private school, and i'll get more one on one attention from the professors. Yes I know going to a CC would be the smartest option but I have no intentions of staying home and going to a CC next year. Anyways, let me know what you guys think would be better if I plan on trying to transfer to USC by next year (Fall 2011). Thanks so much!

I’m in your situation, I enrolled in Pepperdine and am going to go there for a year to see what its like. I suggest you do the same, who knows maybe you will like it. But I agree with your mom, It will be better at Pepp for academics, however UCSB is ranked higher than Pepp in US world and News for best National Universities so who knows.

UCSD is a very prestigious university (generally considered the third best UC behind Berkeley and LA respectively)

Some Californian universities are taking a hit because of the budget crisis, but this will most likely just affect the smaller public universities (like some of the cal states) and possibly Merced being the newest UC. SD will probably be fine if you go there, if you have your heart set on going to USC (and i don’t blame you, even being a UCLA student, USC has an amazing campus with great facilities) then best of luck on getting in : )

I’d go to UCSD. It’s higher ranked overall, many departments are the best in the world…cheaper tuition…the name is more well known…and I know someone who went from UCSD and USC and they loved both schools. USC is a large school so the size will be similar to UCSD.

Total enrollment…
USC 34k
UCSD 27k
Pepperdine 7k
