So I'm a 8274 points, I only gave myself points that I knew they would give me, worst case is about 8144... So my question is, does National AP Scholar count as an award for one of the categories?

UCSD is no longer on the point system. It is holistic like LA/Cal.

Current students at UCSD said that the point system is still being used.

Are these current students making admission decisions for UCSD?

I am a current student. They don’t use the point system anymore. They ended it the year before my admitted class (2015).

I, like tungtied, am of the Class of '15, and we were the last ones accepted under the point system. According to Ms Sun, both UCSD and UCI have both switched over to the holistic system this year: [Ms.
BTW, just curious…I’ve always wondered how my points would have been calculated, so how did you find yours, sairam? :)

@jacjac:
here you go

whilst waiting for my letter of acceptance or rejection, many C.C.'ers told me to judge conservatively. So beat up on yourself as much as possible.
**EXAMPLE) If you have two positions, and neither are P/VP than you don’t get the points.

**For the low income I think it’s in the 45k-60k range.

**finally, you should be judging yourself at slightly higher than 8000.
What happens is each each more students apply than the previous year, and more students have better scores. Higher GPA, SAT< ACT, etc. so naturally the points will have to go up in order to keep a balance. So I would go with maybe 8050ish or something (maybe even 8100).

Hope that helps!

well since they don’t use the point system anymore, calculating the points would be useless now, right?

Too bad because they are not using it I think I would have a pretty good score. I calculate myself at about 8650.

@sairam111394

It’s all sort of arbitrary either way. It’s not exactly like you would have been able to guarantee your own acceptance looking at the point system if they did still use it. And calculating your points doesn’t actually increase your chances of getting in anyway. Not that people actually think it does, but you know what I mean.

^ Yep 100% agreement!

I know I’m using this wrong, but think of being able to calculate your own points as “Chicken Soup for the Soul” or something. It calms you down or freaks you out depending on the score that you go.

the point system is no longer in use. it was phased out starting from the class of 2015, where they somehow used “half hollistic/half point system”

@spatel23, thanks so much! I was just curious since I know I was admitted under that system…just wondering what the admissions officers might have given me last year. :)
