I have a question about the Preliminary Financial Aid award on UCSD's Admission Webpage

It says that i'll get 8370~ in UCSD Grant and 1551 in Cal Grant B, but i got no Cal Grant A? (yeah where is my Cal grant A?)

My friend received a UCSD grant and he got a cal grant A BUT NOT a Cal Grant B?

It is possible to get BOTH a Cal Grant A and Cal Grant B?

Or...does the 8370 UCSD Grant INCLUDE the Cal Grant A?? Confused

Please help..i'm confused why i dont get a cal grant A but i get a Cal Grant B..because YES i do qualify for the Cal Grant A (3.0 req, ect)..it shows how much money i get for a CAL GRANT A and B on my California Aid Report too..i mean, my friend put UCSD as his top 3 on the FAFSA and got a Cal Grant A...what's the deal? O-o

Maybe it's because UCSD wasn't listed as my TOP 3 on my FAFSA? (and consequently not listed on my CAR (as the California Aid Report only lists schools #1 to #3 on the FAFSA, but being top 3 shouldn't have to matter...!)

I believe you get one or the other (not both).

The Cal Grant people figure out what gives you the most money over the four years in college. My son is a sophomore at UCB. The first year he got $1551 and then it bumped up to $8187 for the second year.

So, no worries. Just make sure that once you decide what school to attend, that you let the Cal Grant people know.

yea i heard that we are supposed to be getting the cal grant paper in the mail, but i havent recieved mine yet...maybe b/c i applied for my fafsa on march 1st, n submitted my calgrant the last week of february?
idk, kiego when did you submit your finaid stuff?

i received cal grant paper mail like 2 and a half weeks ago or so..not sure. school completed cal grant verfication form for me and sent it on february 28th or 29th (something like that), and i completed the fafsa on february 12.

UCSD's financial aid preliminary award is on the website.

Whats the difference between Cal Grants and UCSD Grant. My sons preliminary award doesn't mention any Cal Grants, just Pell Grant, Academic Grant and a UCSD grant. We received a paper from Cal Grant stating we weren't eligible because income and assets were "over the ceiling" What ever that means. Do we still get UCSD grant then?

UCSD will offer a financial aid package to meet your son's need. It will be a mixture of loans, work study, Cal Grant, Pell Grant, Academic Competitive grant and UCSD grants depending on which grants you qualify for. The UCSD grant is the school's own scholarship money and is not dependent on eligibility for the Cal Grant.

FresnoMom: Thanks for the info, so what you're telling me is that where it says UCSD Grant under the academic and pell grants that is the amount they are willing to give us, regardless of if he doesn't qualify for Cal Grants!! Kind of like that!! Goodbye Davis and even Berkely if they can't beat it!! LOL

if you know your mom's income will change next year for sure (stop of social security benefits) then can you appeal your preliminary award or is appealing only for those that are current students?
