ucsd professors

hey current ucsd students,
do you know if we can take classes at ucsd from a professor at a different college than the one that we're assigned to?
and also, how are the professors-generally speaking?
thanks!

A college’s writing class is the only class particular to it. And I would say most of my professors have been really good.

I’m only a freshman, but so far most of my professors have been really good and approachable. I did have one new teacher who wasn’t that great, though.

All my professors were super-approachable. In my experience, the ones teaching undergrads (and in particular, lower-division courses) are genuinely happy to be there and welcome extensive interactions with students. Professors who are tenured and don’t like teaching can fulfill the teaching requirement by leading graduate student seminars.

Some people will say that UCSD is such a big school, you’ll never get the one-on-one attention that you would from a small private school, but that’s hardly the case. By the time graduation rolled around, I had 2-3 professors who were unofficial advisors/mentors, really awesome people whose offices I could pop into unannounced to talk about whatever.

Thank you!!
I was just wondering, how many classes do students generally take in one quarter?
And do you have to take a GE class during your freshman year? Or can you wait to take it later on?

^Most take 4 a quarter. And you can have your classes arranged however you like assuming you follow the rules of prerequisites.

When can I start signing up for classes?

Late August.

google ‘ucsd class registration schedule’ and ye shall be granted with this: [Enrollment and Registration Calendar 2010-2011](Enrollment and Registration Calendar 2010–2011)

(bookmark the academic calendar as well while you’re at it)
