I was wondering what the UCSD policy is on admission regarding their formula based on the point chart they have. When I do the calculations, I clear the 2007 cutoff of points by a good 200 points, yet my UC gpa is about 0.25 points lower than the average. Is the rule that if you reach the cutoff of points for that year, you're IN?

I called and got to talk to admission officer at UCSD and he said people do get in below the average GPA. It's the average for admitted students and some top students do use UCSD and a backup and that is why the admitted GPA is high. Apparently, he must be new, he was not aware of the point system. So relax.

Average GPA would imply that half of all admits had a lower gpa. Actually, that isnt quite true - it depends what type of average they are using, but you should get the point.
