UCSD Regents Scholarship--Is it a full ride?

I was recently accepted to UCSD with the Regents Scholarship. I’m a little confused about the whole thing–do they cover tuition and award me $2000 every year? Or do they cover the cost of attending that school up to $2000? I’m “poor” so is it a full ride? I’m wondering because financial aid is definitely the top factor in determining what school I go to.

What is your EFC and what is your financial package for UCSD?

This is what Regents covers:
You get the $2000/year plus:
Entering freshmen and transfers who are CA residents, have demonstrated financial need receive additional scholarship and/or grant funds to meet the financial need for 4 undergraduate academic years based on the FASFA.

What is covered is all dependent upon your financial need. You may get tuition and housing covered. Books possibly? Transportation and personal expenses?

My EFC is 0. Like, my mom has no money to pay for college lol. On the financial aid page it simply says that I will be granted $2000 every year, it does not list any other expenses, which is why I was confused when I saw it.

You should be getting a financial package from UCSD which should spell out what is covered beyond the $2000 Regents Scholarship. Most likely you will still be required to take out some student loans to cover all costs. Call the financial aid office to find out about what is covered. Have you gotten any other FA packages from some other UC’s? They may be comparable minus the Regents scholarship. Also the UC’s do not guarantee that they meet 100% need.

Here is a scenario of the possible costs with a family income of $20K: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/paying-for-uc/how-aid-works/student-scenarios/index.html

Okay thank you. Hopefully they’ll cover most if not tall.

Are you instate? Do you qualify for a Cal Grant and Pell Grant?

Did you file FAFSA?
