Ucsd rejection thread!

You also got rejected. Lol. The same outcome…
Waitlisted by Davis. Rejected by UCSD…

I’m super worried about Irvine and LA (since I auditioned for LA and my stats don’t affect my acceptance at all) I got into Davis but I’m not really a fan of being stranded out in the middle of farmland. I’m also kind of doubting myself for SB as well so as not to get my hopes up

SAT- 2180
SATII- ush 740 lit 580 mathIIc 610 (;__:wink:
UW GPA- 3.6
UC GPA- 3.95
2 sports 4 years
Officer in my deca chapter
AP scholar with honors

Probably my gpa was too low; I did state that I got extremely sick in junior year and missed about a month of school so my grades tanked, but eh, guess the officers weren’t too sympathetic

weighted gpa was like 4.07…2100 sat bad luck i guess…

I just think that all the UC’s look a lot into the gpa.
I recently got rejected from Davis.
I’m not sure for UCSD.
My stats are:
weighted gpa: 3.57
SAT 1: 1820
ACT: none
ethnicity: asian/international
Courses: 6 IB courses (IB diploma Candidate)

I wanted to post my stats because so far I’ve been accepted to other colleges that are pretty good and I wanted to cheer up people! So far, I got accepted to Penn State Univ.-University Park, Indiana Univ.-Bloomington, Univ. of Massachusetts-Amherst all as “sociology” major. Keep up hopes! You never know why colleges accept you for what reason!

Waitlisted- 4.45 weighted gpa, 2090 sat
I thought I had good essays. They made my counselor cry, that has to say something! XD
And I’ve done a ton of volunteer work and stuff, but ucsd was the only school I applied as undeclared, mainly for the hell of it, I didn’t really look much into the school.

I got into UT Austin, University of Pittsburgh with a 50,000 dollar scholarship, Boston college, UW at Seattle, and cal state Fullerton which was a major major backup,

If I don’t get into ucla, I’m going to Boston college for sure, as a nursing major :D

I agree, it seems that all those with Lower-GPA and High-SAT/ACT scores aren’t getting the results we hoped for from the UCs.

I don’t understand why; GPA is extremely subjective based on the school. I know the max GPA you can even get at my school is around a 4.3; AP/Honors courses aren’t even offered until junior year and you’re only allowed to take 2 in your junior year.

GPA also varies based on school; a kid with an A in a class at a top 50 US HS has obviously done a lot more work and learned a lot more than a kid with an A at a less competitive school. SATs/ACTs/APs are the only true objective stats, in my opinion.

Additionally, UCs seem to be dealing with a much higher-than-normal applicant pool as well as decreased funding from the state of california. It’s just a bad year overall for us to be applying, I suppose, unless your stats happen to be particularly stellar - and to those of you who do have such stellar stats, I congratulate you :]

uc gpa 3.8, SAT 1: 2190.
i thought uc davis was a shoe-in but ended up getting rejected. and now rejected from ucsd, which is in my top 3. i’m very disappointed in myself but i’m hoping for the better!

@gameraddict, i completely agree with you. it really bothers me how i go to a really competitive school and have to literally fight for good grades and study hard for SAT’s, while my friend who goes to a ghetto school gets good grades easily and does whatever for SAT’s and gets into schools that i couldn’t. completely subjective and saddening on many students’ parts :[ also, it puzzles me how some students have like 4.5 weighted gpa’s, but only 1900 SAT scores… doesn’t that indicate that their school was relatively easy? (although i know sat score isn’t 100% representative of your intelligence, but i’m just saying, since sat is not subjective to area/school).

As someone who has felt the exact same feelings that you have, trust me when I say that you’re often better off than they are for having gone to a tough high school. Your experience fighting for good grades will help you do well in college, and having good grades at this level is far more important than the name of the institution. I got turned down at my dream undergrad a few years back because of my GPA, and I’m glad for it. There are many more chapters to be written in your life, and the work ethic you got used to in high school is far more valuable.

And it would be a bit unreasonable for the UC’s with their massive applicant pool to take into consideration the competitiveness of individual magnets. And considering how the demographics of competitive schools tend to over-represented the over-represented, creating an index to advantage students at these schools would be problematic.

3.8ish UC GPA
27 ACT 1840 SAT
wasn’t really planning on going so it’s not a huge deal, it just makes me more nervous about my reaches.

looks like us students with ‘low’ gpa’s, high test scores aren’t getting the benefit of the doubt…sucks…

3.7 uc gpa, 2220 sat.

did anyone call the number they gave you? did they tell you anything?
wondering if its even worth my time to call them :/

I got in with a low GPA, good test score. Yes, I go to a top 30 school in the US. It’s super hard to get good grades. Even the regular non honors AP classes are super tough since even the dumbest person in your class can keep up very well.

GPA: 3.45-3.46 ish (one C in Precalculus H)
UC GPA: 3.78
SAT: 2170
ACT: 33

The main thing you want to do for your personal statements is let the admissions people know who you really are. Open up and take a risk by sharing yourself. If you give a vivid representation of who you are, they might take a closer look at your stats.

If you guys are appealing or have to write an essay for a waitlisted school, my advice is to TREAT YOUR ESSAY LIKE AN INTERVIEW. They want to get to know the face behind those arbitrary numbers.

Wow, I really don’t get how people with 2200+/4.2+ get rejected/waitlisted… especially when on their website, you see that their average accepted student has something like a 4.1 and a 2000.

I’m beginning to think that I just got lucky…

2260 SAT
3.9 UC gpa

Rejected UCD, UCSD
Accepted UCSC -guess I need to start smoking weed

Holding out hope for private schools. My hs is full of high gpa low SATers. Looks like thats what UC wants this year. Waiting on UCSB,UCI

I was accepted, but just to add some perspective I had a 2020 SAT, 4.5 UC GPA, strong ec’s and essays. Perhaps UCSD put a strong emphasis on GPA as my SAT was pretty low compared to others.

Admitted with low GPA/high SAT.

Unweighted GPA: 3.1
UC GPA: 3.6
SAT: 2250

Essays and ECs must have helped me tremendously.

I got in, but my friend didn’t so I’ll post his stats.
He got rejected from UCSD and UCD
He wants to be an engineer.
I had an 1830. He had a 2040
but I had a 3.7 unweighted. He had like 3.5? 3.6?
Then again, I was more active in clubs and was the one pulling both of our weights in our writing classes.
He’s sad which prevents me from being fully happy about my acceptance :c
But from this thread, I can see that there are a lot of similar cases.
