Ucsd rejection thread!

That’s a pretty ignorant statement. I’m guessing you’ve never actually been Davis. It’s honestly a really cool place and as far as being “stranded”, it’s not far from Sacramento at all. In that sense I wouldn’t see how you would be any more stranded than going to a place like UCSB or UCSD.

school really sucked today…people were talking about how they got accepted and i was just sitting there feeling like crap…

@sportsfan - hang in there…nothing is for sure until summer. wait lists do open up.

My son got rejected 1900, 4.2. I hate seeing a lot of you feeling so disappointed, all that work you did in high school, etc. Hang in there, you’ll get in somewhere. You probably will even like it. In the end, the degree, not the school is what will get your foot in the employment door.

@Sportsfan so true … I know how you feel. I got rejected with a 3.85 UC GPA and a 2200, but all my friends were talking about how they got in everywhere with like 3.6s and 2000s… made me feel like I messed up somehow :frowning: sigh.

If that’s how you respond to a university that admitted you that YOU applied to, I can tell your attitude is going to get you really far.

@MindySue

That’s great advice and totally true. It’s more about what you do than where you go. UCSD is good and all, but there are also so many other great places to spend your time in college and set yourself up for the career you want. Life throws wrenches into people’s plans but it’s about shrugging it off and finding your next path to go down to success.

That is too bad… Gameraddict… :(

@ $KingsElite$ calm down. I believe that statement was simply some satire about the amount of people that smoke weed in the Santa Cruz area. LOL Kid’s gotta fit in with his local community.<-- sarcasm lol

It’s finals week, don’t you go telling nobody to calm down! NO I WILL NOT CALM DOWN. lawl

guys i think this year UCSD looked a lot more into essays/EC’s imo

I was accepted with mediocre grades (4.0~) and a high SAT
but i think what got me in were EC’s and i wrote a very unique essay

It’s no big deal though. Im sure you all will get into a good school and carry on.
its just one school and if your dedicated enough to be searching around on collegeconfidential then you probably are a decently hard working student

UCLA rejected too. So far rejection from UCSD, UCLA. Waitlisted at UC Davis… Waiting for UC Berkeley. I AM SURE I WILL BE 100% REJECTED. IF ACCEPTED, I MUST BE DREAMING!!! :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:frowning: LOL

I got in with a 4.3 weighted GPA (forgot what my UC gpa was) , 2060 SAT, not that many ECs but I think pretty good essays.
But just to add some perspective I got rejected from UCI…

because you are too good. That’s why UCI rejected you because it knew you would get in a better school. I personally find this system of rejecting people really annoying because good students deserve having options but I totally understand them because there are many other people who need to get in and it’ll be hard for them to keep track if they take all the great kids but they end up going to private ivys.

Thats really nice of you chainiwatmj but I feel like it could have possibly been my extracurrics because Ive read that UCI cares more about that then I probably expected. Who knows but I guess it doesnt matter Id obviously rather go to UCSD haha

Waitlisted with a 3.9 UC GPA and a 2250 SAT (770 Writing, 760 Math, 720 CR). 770 Math II, 790 US History, 740 Biology subject tests. EC’s were pretty good. I published a paper, and did a lot of leadership positions and volunteer work, but I don’t think I really had a “hook”. The essays were a mixed bag. One was good, but not spectacular, and the other was, in my opinion, one of the best I had done.

I wonder if it’s because of my grades (I took almost every single one of the AP classes available at my school, which numbered around 15, so my grades are a lot lower than my UC GPA would indicate). Regardless, I wish the best of luck for all of you at finding a great college!

I’m not sure I was rejected, and I’m not sure how legit the housing trick was before the website crashed, but based on that alone I got rejected:
4.08 UC GPA 2200 SAT 33 ACT 800 Math II 760 Chemistry ECs from volunteer work to religious activities first essay average second essay much better.
So I honestly think I was one of those unfortunate ones whose intended major was simply too competitive this year (economics).

Honestly, not being harsh, :stuck_out_tongue: but colleges are increasingly taking G.P.A. into consideration because recently there have been studies on how SAT scores do not often correlate well with how well a person will do in college, but H.S. G.P.A kind of does. Test scores seemingly give advantage to people whose parents tend to be more educated and create that support network for their kids.

*I understand some high schools grade extremely harshly. I know MANY of my friends who go to such a competitive high school in one of the richest neighborhoods in the Bay Area. They cannot get a high G.P.A and are not even ranked due to cut-throat competition :D. I know that’s how tough it is!
*On the other hand, I went to a school with 900+ students only in the senior class alone…It is probably the second largest H.S. in California and pretty sure UCSD is familiar with it. The competition was tough, yet, I overcame it.
So, no criticism should be displaced on UCSD for considering G.P.A. over test scores because that is there way of looking over applications. <3 Privates are a bit different and so is UCLA and UCB. Remember, we applied to extreme liberal Californian UC’s that consider the entire person and at one time did advocate for not considering the SAT as they felt it wasn’t a true reflection of the applicants. (P.S. I am a liberal myself). Also, I agree that one really has to open up in essays. I know a friend of mine who was low-income and just didn’t feel like talking about her situation in her essay. She didn’t have much EC’s and could’ve really explained herself in her essays, but she didn’t. Hence, she got wait listed by UC Davis despite having better test scores and grades than me! I was so shocked ! :open_mouth: Thus, being open in your personal statement really gives a true picture of who you are <3

*But, you all are AWESOME  <3 and totally have done such great achievements that even I don’t have. You all have talents that I WISH I had,but sadly I don’t because my parents could never afford time and money for my extracurriculars. I’ve only dedicated myself to community service and that’s it.

*You all have TALENT and have done so much already in such young ages,so don’t lose hope and you all will make it somewhere. Be happy of your accomplishments :D

I don’t want to make everyone feel even worse, but I do think UCSD did consider GPA and EC’s more over test scores.
I got accepted,
(Major is Visual Arts: Media) and my GPA was a 4.06 W
3.84 UW. (I achieved straight A’s for 2 semesters straight.)
My SAT was a 1480 out of 2400
ACT was a 22.
Essays were… good? I’m guessing.
My EC’s were, in my opinion, unique. (Which probably helped A LOT)
I am EXTREMELY low income, so that helped get me into EOP.
I also got accepted into other UC’s.

Don’t feel bad guys. I honesty think a lot of you deserved my spot, since your stats are much more impressive than mine.
I wish you all the best!

@defying: Yeah same here. As I’m scrolling through this forum and am looking at the stats people post, I feel that there are those with way better stats than mine and probably deserve a spot at UCSD more than I do who are getting waitlisted and rejected.

@Korean101 Yes I do feel really bad, but I did work hard. I also overcame some really bad hardship, so it’s not like my grades were given to me; I earned them.
There are people on here who worked 10 times HARDER than me though, so I feel awful and guilty getting accepted :(. I feel like I cheated them out. Although I can say I AM happy I did get into a good school. I’m not totally guilt ridden.
I hope these people get into much better schools.
