UCSD Research Mentorship Program

I’ve been looking for research programs for the summer going into my senior year, and the RMP caught my attention. I am planning on researching in humanities subjects like anthropology!
I am wondering about how competitive the application process is and whether the graduates get accepted to highly ranked universities.

If anyone has experiences with the program, please don’t hesitate to reply!

Did you mean UCSB in the title?

Not sure if you are referring to the Mentor Assistance Program.

I’m going to assume you are. I was accepted to this program in Fall 2016, but unfortunately had to decline due to scheduling conflicts. I think the admissions process is quite competitive, as everyone wants lab research these days. It definitely looks good on college apps.

I was under the impression that the program was only for the sciences, but I may be wrong.

I totally meant UC Santa Barbara in the title! Sorry :frowning:

@sleepneeded00 oh sorry!!! Totally ignore what I said then haha

I know some things about UCSB’s RMP program, because my son did it 3 summers ago. But, I don’t know how many people apply. I would think that the research you do would have more effect on college acceptances than the “RMP” name, which is not as well known as other programs.

My recollection is that some of the available projects were anthropology/sociology type subjects. My guess is that there was less competition for those. Note that at RMP you will not see the list of projects, rank your choices, or be selected for a project until you are already at RMP. When doing admissions, they like to see students who are open minded about fields for their project.
