which one is better for pre-med, taking into consideration which one sends more kids to more prestigious med schools

Pre-meds should worry about getting into med school, not getting into prestigious med-schools…

okay then med schools period

Of those that make it to apply (those that have decent GPA for med school, MCATS, and ECs):

Berkeley Acceptances: 59% (2006); 62% (2005); 67% (2004); 63% (2003); 66% (2002)
UCSD Acceptances: 46.6% (2006); 47% (2005); 50% (2004); 49% (2003); 51% (2002)

National Acceptance Rate: 47.5% (2006); 46% (2005); 47% (2004); 49% (2003); 52% (2002)

Berkeley has better biology (except bioengineering) than SD. Also Revelle mandates a lot of GE work compared to Cal

Revelle College, in whole, has the highest med school acceptance rate out of any US public institution, including Berkeley! (It said so in the Revelle Acceptance letter). And the GEs are not that tough if you have some AP credit. You have to note that Cal has the top kids in CA so therefore the competition is going to be extremely tough. Cal is not known for handing out easy A’s. SD is still comparatively hard but its quite clear that the students are not as high up as those in Cal. So theoretically, you would get a higher GPA for the same amount of work. (Remember this is just a vague assumption). Although it would be completely arrogant to assume that your GPA will be better at UCSD than at Cal, it does seem like UCSD would be a better choice for those who feel uneasy about their GPA at Cal.

I would go to school where you want to go to school. Pre-med is going to be hard at either school. What if you change your mind and end up wanting to study something else? Choose the school that fits you best and then do your best at that school. Either choice is a good choice.

yeah kenf1234 said it best. Go to the one that would best fit your desires.
Good Luck!
Note: Im a premed that is in the same predicament. As of now, Im 90% sure I’ll go to SD because Cal is way too far away from my home among other reasons.

jasonlee576 i see your name everywhere. i think i saw it on an sd thread and like the berkeley forum. good advice ppls thanks.

hm..im having that same problem too.
i don’t know where to go!!
have u made a decision yet?

right now im kinda leaning towards berkeley…i mean if i decide im not gonna do pre-med, a berkeley degree is better in general…i really dont know lol i have to visit sd first
