ucsd revelle or ucb for pre med?

which one is better for premed, like which one sends more students to more prestigious med schools and which has better opportunities and such

I am in the same situation as you.

in all honesty, how would we know?

we're UCSD students and can speak of our school, as can Cal students. you should be hunting down med school admissions officers for this kind of information, because it's only their opinions that actually matter.

True, that.

Just go to the school you like best. Who knows, after freshman year you may not be premed anymore.

UCSD is better for premed. Berkeley owns mostly in Business and Engineering. Med is UCSDs speciality

i am in the same situation as you,
have you made a decision yet?
it's very hard to turn down Cal!

You could always submit 2 SIRs and defer the decision until later.

But it's much better to decide now, so you can get all the paperwork done and move on with your life instead of worrying about which school to go to. Making firm decisions and sticking with them is the mark of a true doctor.

Davis for med

their biological sciences is excellent. You can go to Cal graduate school after that.

hehe, did I answer your question? :)

davis was not one of her choices. And you can go to Cal grad school from anywhere really.

i'd say for premed, your test scores would be more important than the college you attend. That being said, its your own personal preference b/t SD and Cal.

i would say go for the college you like better.... not like... which is "better" for whatever... and seriously consider that sooo many freshmen think they can make it as premeds and after thier first year many many ppl change majors
so i say go where it makes you happy and have no regrets

statistics can be altered to make what you want of it, but i know when I was checking out our career service's stats. - regarding the number of kids that got into med. school - it was below the nationwide avg.

Opportunities to work in a lab here are abundant though - if you put your self out there that is.

There is a similar discussion in the UCB forum.

Premed classes are easy wherever you go. It's a matter of attitude. :p

I'd definitely go to Berkeley for premed

it's all about the grades, ecs, and MCAT scores.

i disagree with that thread on the quality of college making such a big difference. if i were a med school admissions person, if i had one spot left and it was berk. vs. ucsd and absolutely EVERYTHING was the same, including gpa, i'd choose the berkeley kid, but otherwise, i don't think going to berk or ucsd makes that big of a difference in acceptances.

i think ucsd has a lot more opportunities to shine than berkeley. cal professors (supposedly) are more concerned with their research than teaching, making it harder for you to get to know them. also, ucsd has so many medical institutions and hospitals for you to volunteer in and do research at. ucsd has pretty good faculty, imo, and pretty accessible, and in the bio/chem depts, you can TA as a way to get to know faculty even more. it's really fun. :)
