UCSD/SDSU for International Business/Economics ?

Hi everyone,
I have a 3.6 GPA in a CC...
im almost done with my GE...and as u can see my degree im going for is international business/economics.
The only thing is I am weak in math. I used to be in the gate program and used to have really good grades, but with one event, i started forgetting about math and in high school i barely graduated pre calculus with a B.
Im pretty sure I need to take calculus for my econ degree....
For this im going to try to take precalculus first to review up...and then calculus before i transfer.
Let me know if I am right.
My other question is which school is better for my degree? UCSD or SDSU?
The farthest im willing to go is UCI.....
thanks!

SDSU offers a traditional business program including international business.

UCSD does not offer business administration. It has an outstanding economics program – but it is quite analytical. One full year (three quarters) of college calculus required which you can meet through equivalent preparation at a CC. UCSD also offers an international studies program which should not be confused with int’l business. Instead the IS prgram offers seven tracks including int’l econ., int’l poli sci, anthrpology, linguistics, regional studies and such. The IS program is very interdisciplinary.

thanks torrey pines.
i actually graduated form there lol.
anyways yeah i know sdsu has international business
and ucsd has international studies-economics.

To me it seems like the same thing…I was wondering which you think has a better program?
And Im acutally wanting to get out of SD once i get my degree…
im just really uncofident in my calculus…

but already have a background in investing, stocks.

They are NOT the same thing

If you think econ = business, have fun dealing with math modeling, logit analysis, and real analysis.

so econ=math modeling, logit analysis, real analysis?

Economics is an analytical discipline. It underpins business studies but is distinct from business management as such. It is a broad discipline with its own specialties: microeconomics, macroeconomics, international trade, international monetary economics, labor economics, regulatory economics, environmental economics, health economics, industrial organization etc. etc…

Business has its own specialties or concentrations: marketing, strategy, global business, finance, accounting, operations management, technology management etc…etc…

Economics is more analytical – see my earlier post her on the requirement for calculus (one year) and at UCSD one year of Econometrics (upper division classes). This is required.

International studies is not the same as int’l business. Far from it. International studies does allow you to take economics as one major track – but it is not as analytical as the Econ major at UCSD. The number of econ courses you take is also less.

Your question shows that you really need to do serious homework to differentiate between Econ. vs. Business; Int’t Bus vs. Int’l studies. Good luck!
