UCSD Students, favorite on-campus restaurants

Santorini Greek is one of my personal favs. Alot of stuff in the sunshine market is good too.

Any good vegetarian choices that I can buy w/ dining dollars?

Oyama: Sunshine Market also sells Horchatas.

ManOfFaith, thanks!

blackberry, all dining halls have vegetarian (and some cater towards vegan now, too) choices

There is some vegetarian buffet weekly on the top of the old student center (I forget exactly what day and time, but they advertise in the newspaper).

Could be a dumb question buttt… are dining dollars only used in the dining halls? Or can they be used at other places like Triton Cash?

^Nope, they can only be used at UCSD dining locations. That means dining halls, POTS (or whatever it’s called now - Roger something or other), Earl’s Place, and Goody’s.

The vegan buffet on top of the old student center happens every wednesday during lunch time…I think it’s only $5?

mm Yogurtworld is good, and Panda Express. I haven’t tried that Thai place on campus though :open_mouth:

and OVT is good for those breakfast burritos, and their dessert i suppose <3

what happened to El Mercado? ): i liked their food…

okay, well this is what i’ve found out in my first year here. The buffet they are talking about is amazing! Its called Hare Krishna and they serve veg indian inspired food. its generally rice with 2 main dishes and dessert… They always have great dessert. Hopefully it will still be wednesdays from 12-2. and I’m pretty sure its only 4 dollars (cash only). 5 if you want to bring a tupperware to fill up. I seriously pile my plate SO high and then take the left overs back with me.

I’m in Marshall so i know all about OVT… OVT has a ‘create your own’ noodle plates. you walk up, pretty much straight in, and write down what you want on a slip of paper that has check marks next to the options. They have lots of different sauces, all vegetarian, some vegan. Kind of expensive though, so I wouldn’t get it often.

I also used to get wraps from the sandwich counter there. They have a pretty good selection of veggies to add, except I hate how avocado is extra. They also have a pretty good salad bar, with ladies behind that you can ask to make you a cesar or greek salad (or whatever else they have listed at the bar) if they are there. They will toss it all together for you. Canyon Vista, even though its on the complete other side of campus, has a ton of salad options, that you can ask for no meat or get one of the vegetarian ones.

anyway, thats what I can remember of the options I would choose. Good luck!

Kinda off topic but related (consumables). This is what I learned yesterday:

If you work out…
Sunshine Market has the cheapest milk (55 cents) for mixing with protein =P.

And if you’re a drunk (like me) and of age…
Shogun has the cheapest beer ($2.99) everyday =D.

You’re joking. Mercado was the only good dining place that took dining dollars!

Anyway, I ate at Yogurtworld twice a day, everydayyy xD

On the Dining Dollar amount question:

I’m a girl, and I’m 98 lbs, 5’1" (pretty thin) and I used up all my dining dollars (2750 or something?) my freshman year by… early-Spring quarter. I eat a lot :O

But I didn’t have a problem using it up, and neither did most of my friends, EXCEPT those that routinely go home on the weekends.

I miss Mercado. Off topic but the best near-campus restaurant is probably Phil’s. Fast food is obviously In-N-Out. The pollo asada fries in that place across the KFC (I can’t believe I forgot the name) is really good too… And there are a lot more…I realized my housemates and I ate out a lot…

All of them! The food at UCSD is amazing. xD

I was always first in line when Shogun opened. I got the fresh chicken katsu bowl which is excellent haha

That’s the only good dish there, IMO.
