Tour the school and research this carefully. It is an essential part of UCSD and the experience you would have there.

Search the UCSD forum, there have been a ton of discussions about the 6 colleges. And choose wisely, I hear it’s very difficult to change colleges once you are admitted to one.

do you have specific links? :x

Here’s a thread that discusses each college:

Start there… I would recommend doing a lot of research on your own to determine where you would be happiest! Take it seriously! :)

i am a current sd student/.
for any sci majors the best choice is revelle
and #2 is warren

there is NO ‘best’ college for anything, maybe with the exception of the engineers squirreled away in warren. i think applying the label ‘best’ tends to confuse freshmen and lead to endless “how do i change colleges” or “oh no, i’m an art major in revelle, is it the end of the world”-type questions.

i graduated with a chemistry degree from revelle, and while i’ll admit that their GEs were friendly to me, it might also because i came in with enough AP/transfer credit to pass out of most of my GEs. this can happen at any of the colleges.

there are many factors that should come into play when ranking colleges on your application: location, housing, philosophy, writing sequence, GE intensity – academics alone should NOT determine it all.

just know that if you want to be in John Muir College, make sure that it’s your first choice. i think they said everyone who is in Muir this year put it as their first choice. i’m not sure about the other colleges though.

muir '12 represent! : )
