UCSD Summer Session

Hi
I am going to do attend the summer session this year and I just have a few questions for anyone whose done it.
1. How "intense" are the classes? I mean the sessions are only 4 weeks long while normal quarters are 11 weeks...does that mean the professors will teach faster?
2. How many classes do you recommend me taking? Ideally, I want to take as many as I can (out-of-state student....faster graduation hopefully...and I'm trying to switch into an impacted major so I have to finish all of my lower div classes quickly) but I don't want to fail them all obviously, and that leads to
3. Is it insane to try to take BILD1 or 3, CHEM6C, MATH10c and PHYS1B+BL all in one summer session?

Your opinions are greatly appreciated! :)

Do you mean summer session I and II for the summer? Taking two of the classes (8 units or 9 units in the case of physics + another course) is challenging in one of the summer sessions. A whole quarter is crammed into 5 weeks, so class hours per week is longer and the course is taught at much more rapid pace. It is definitely doable, but don’t just fall behind or else it is impossible to catch up. Good luck and keep that GPA high to get into a biology major!

Well…I was planning to only do Summer session 1…so do you suggest that I only take 1 or 2 classes? note that I’m the type of student that needs to spend time to digest all the stuff from the lectures and I usually need to prepare for finals a week or so before.

By the way, does anyone know what the exceptional admission application for the division of biological sciences looks like? Will I need to write an essay?

It’s a relative simple process. Just enter your information and they will decide if you’re in or not. You do not need to write an essay.
