UCSD Summer Session

Has anyone ever taken any summer session classes? How hard are they? I am trying to take a few GE classes during the summer so that I can focous mainly on Engineering, Math, and Physics for next year. How many courses do you recommend taking? I am trying to take MMW4,MMW6, JAPAN 10B, and 10C.

thats doable since the two mmw courses will be in different sessions. I have a suitemate who completed mmw4, mmw5, and mmw6 all during the summer. He said taking the two mmw's at the same session was insane.

Cool! Thanks for the information.

Is it mostly UCSD students taking the classes?

yup. but occasionally you'll get the high-school brainiac and other-UC student, since all grades obtained at the UC campuses transfer into a common UC-GPA.

so instead of going all the way to SD to take summer courses (I'm from the Bay but go to SD), I can just go to Cal?

yeah, but careful with the semester-quarter system overlaps. it's a lot easier going between quarter-system-based campuses, but not even that is foolproof (ie, i tried taking ochem at UCD but realized that their classes come with a lab included, whereas UCSD's ochem labs are offered separately).

I have a question. Can you stay in the dorms during summer quarter because I know you have to go home during breaks.

anyone know how hard MMW is during the summer? i’m thinking of mmw 5

@ buffettime - yes, but not your specific dorm. there’s general housing for SS students. it’s pretty overpriced. i’d recommend getting an apt with friends or look for a summer sublet.
