Hello, I got an email today from UCSD asking me to answer extra questions and provide them my fall grades.
What does this mean? I’m curious…
The questions are:
Do you believe your grades and test scores accurately reflect your academic ability and preparation? Please explain.
Describe in greater detail any special talent, skill or ability you included in your list of extracurricular activities or mentioned in your personal statement for the UC Application and how the pursuit of this activity may or may not have affected your academic achievement thus far. (Art, music, dance, debate, athletics, volunteer or community service, etc.)
Are there any personal circumstances such as employment, family responsibilities or illness that have significantly hampered your ability to achieve academically thus far? How do you feel these circumstances have prepared you to overcome any personal challenges that might occur while at UCSD?
They are just trying to get clarification on some things mentioned on your application or essay. It is a good sign, since this shows they are considering your application.
I got the same form but I do not have any personal circumstances that have affected me significantly. Is it okay to leave this field blank? And how long do you think the response should be?
It says it should take 5 minutes so a few sentences should be fine?
I also got this email… A little worried because previous threads said that applicants only got this questionnaire if they were borderline accept/reject. Also, on my UC app I mentioned some of my personal struggles and hardships as well as a supplemental essay on my special talent/ability/skill, so I feel as though I have already answered many of these questions… How should I answer these questions without just restating what I’ve already given them in my original application?
I received this letter as well but I am worried as my senior grade isn’t good. I got Straight Bs and one C in AP Calc…(6 AP classes)… it’s my fault but
I just sent mine through and decided to be honest with question 3 and open up in the hopes they let me in. Each response consisted of only 2 short paragraphs. Good luck everyone! A little over a month left for decisions.
I was pretty relieved when I received this email because I had filled a similar supplemental questionnaire for UC Davis. I’m not exactly too sure if they send these out to borderline admits/rejects because, according to my counselor, the schools send these out to differentiate between students who have the same GPA, SAT scores, and EC as you. You should ask around your school. I am hundred percent sure, someone with the same GPA and SAT score as you got the same thing. I don’t mean to be pessimistic, just thought I’d share this with you.
@preetk8 there are essays for differentiation, though. because of that, i do believe that this is for borderline admit/reject/waitlist students. i’ve heard from several sources that this is for borderline applicants too.
