UCSD TAG CHEM Sequence Problems

Hey everyone!

I'm currently a transfer hopeful from a San Diego Community College. I applied to UCSD's Pharmacological Chemistry with a 3.04 GPA, TAG and IGETC. This SPRING 2011 semester I'm only taking 2 classes: CHEM 201 and CHEM 201 L. I already submitted my Transfer Update in January.

If I end up withdrawing from those two classes and receive a W in each class, will that heavily impact my acceptance into UCSD since I didn't finish the CHEM sequence?

If I withdraw, I'll plan on retaking CHEM 201 and CHEM 201L during this summer.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out.

Is that chem class part of you IGETC? and will you still have over 60 units?
If its not part of the IGETC and you are over 60 units, I don’t see a problem, as SD doesn’t require you to have the major pre-req done.

This CHEM 201+L isn’t part of my IGETC, it’s part of my major preparation. My units are over 60 too.

Thanks a lot for the reply David. I feel a lot less stressed. :)

Yea. SD’s TAG requirements (until this Fall semester) (as far as I know) is that:

-you have to finish English/math 1 year prior to transfer
-Get IGETC done
-over 60 units

I might be missing some other stuff, but that was the basic guideline.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong :o

If you are already in the two classes and they are your only two classes you should finish them this semester. Given the budget situation for higher education in California you have no way of knowing whether those courses will even be offered during the summer or if there is even going to be a summer session at your school. Why would you want to drop the only two courses you have and start them all over again next semester?

Lemaitre1, I totally understand where you are coming from, but presently there are a lot of issues going on in my life that would be better solved if I withdrew from those classes this semester.

Prior to even posting this thread I did weigh the pros and cons of my “prospective” plan, and now knowing that withdrawing won’t affect my acceptance makes me a lot more at ease with everything.

just wondering are you taking chem 201 at mesa? and professor did you have it with? if you plan on taking 201 lecture at mesa i can help you out with the class.
