So I'm pretty much finished filling out my TAG for UCSD. I was gonna bring it in to a transfer counselor to evaluate it but the school staff keeps lying to me about when they're available. I still want some other people to evaluate my situation to give me some peace of mind so I figured I'll take it here for now :P. From what I understand, a TAG to UCSD requires IGETC, 60 units, and at least 3.0. I have all. Well actually I'm taking an IGETC course right now so one is in progress and I should have 63 units by the end of fall. Now here's the kicker. I'm planning to transfer as a comp sci major (non impacted last I checked). I made a pretty late major change so I won't have any pre-reqs for that until at least spring. But I should still be eligible to get in regardless right? I've seen many horror stories on here of people getting rejected even with a TAG so I would like to set the record straight here.

TAG gaurantees admission to the school but not the major. But I think what will happen for you is once you transfer you will have to take the prereqs at UCSD before you can take upper division Comp sci classes. And as for people who got rejected with tag, they probably made some sort of mistake when doing the tag app, didnt get 60 units, or made some sort of error. Because TAG stands for Transfer Admission GUARANTEE lol.

That’s what I’m thinking. Also, I’ve been told to include classes that I plan on taking in winter and spring, but what if I’m not sure about my plans in those semesters?

That said, be careful what you put down as “planned” classes for winter and spring. This is a part of your contract and whatever you put on the TAG application should also be put on your UC application AND should be completed! UCSD and UCI both told me that it is “absolutely” grounds for revoking someone’s admission decision if they do not complete the classes they “planned”.

Now don’t get me worng, they completely understand if one or two things change because of scheduling at your CCC.

Here is an example of what they mean: Lets say you “plan” to take Calc 1 and Physics 1 in winter and Calc 2, Physics 2 and Computer Sci 1 for spring. But instead you only take calc 1 and physics 1 over the two semesters along with some easy classes. THIS is grounds for revoking your admission. So all in all just be careful and only “plan” what you plan to actually take.

@college boy: Yes, it is possible. It is even possible to take calc 1 in spring and then petition to take calc 2 at the UC you transfer to. Either way, you’ll be fine.

I wouldn’t worry a whole lot about the TAG application. We had the UCSD TAG rep for all the local CCs come talk at my school and she said the TAG app isn’t technically essential this year (meaning if you forget it and check the box for TAG on the UC app, you’re good.) Next year is when it’s absolutely required. They say it’s “required” this year, but it’s really not.

Your evaluation is going to be done on the UC app. The TAG app is for peace of mind and for the schools to know how many TAG slots to expect ahead of general application filing.
