About UCSD

"A 2000 survey of graduate programs by U.S. News and World Report ranks the UCSD...Department of Theater and Dance as 3rd in the nation"

-though this only pertains to the graduate program. I'm not sure how the undergrad program fares.

east coaster, i'm not sure yet if i am going to attend UCSD, it seems like a great school, but i am not sure of the quality of theater there. I was also accepted to UCSB and I know that UCSB has a BFA in acting, but also don't know much about it. Yes I did apply to UCLA for musical theater. Still waiting to hear from UCLA, UCI, and NYU.

and thank you gracie06 and Dk-blue_Falcon!

Since its inception, the Playhouse and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) have worked closely together to create an integrated environment for the exciting and nationally visible theatre produced by the Playhouse and the nationally respected theatre training program offered by the Department of Theatre and Dance. The spirit of the relationship has always been one of symbiosis — the Playhouse feeding the university with its extraordinary artists, innovative new works and high production values while the university brings the energy and idealism of its talented students, a world-class faculty and the presence of an intellectual environment to support the cutting edge artistic choices of the Playhouse.

As two legally and financially independent organizations, the Playhouse and UCSD have entered into a succession of formal agreements; the current agreement runs from 2000 to 2050. Under this agreement, the two institutions work together in three ways: shared facilities, shared technical production staff and training of theatre artists.
