UCSD to UC Davis

I want to transfer from UCSD to UCD. I thought about transferring back to a CC then to UCD but at the same time I want to transfer within 2 years from UCSD.

How much harder would that be? What is the percentage I'll get in?
GPA I would need to maintain?
Any tips to increase my chances?

Or should I just flat out go to CC?

Way to go man :D

How many units do you have from UCSD? If you’re above a certain # it makes the change more difficult… but if you apply (and you did well), you’ll probably be fine!

Thanks for replying! =)

I’m a freshman here now so I have 12 units in quarter system. The thing is first priority is given to community students so I’m scared I won’t get in if I transfer from UCSD…

I think you’d be ok. Were you accepted to UCD Before? why’d you go to SD and what made you cahnge your mind? Just curious hehe. I applied to UCSD last year and am not this year - doing UCD instead myself. :D

Yes I was accepted to Uc davis before but my parents pressured me to come here cause they think it’s a better school and what not. sigh.

Did you get accepted to UCSD? How is Davis? Tell me everything! I’m assuming it’s a pretty good school.

Howcome you want out of SD?! Do elaborate plz.

hmm if i was you, i’d go to a ccc. soooo fackin easy to get to davis from there, depending on your major. you wouldn’t need to stress over getting in or not (well not as much lol). My sister goes to davis and she LOVES it.
But yeah, what’s wrong with ucsd? i think you’ll learn to love it if you stay the next few years though…

I got rejected from UCSD for being 0.04 points too low on GPA. No really, the rep told me that, and they rejected my appeal [I was saying that it’s not always easy to keep up because I live with an autistic bro and that can be stressful… wasn’t my only thing.]

tbh the weeks after getting rejected I was glad that happened for a few reasons lol :D

it’s only because it’s too far from home. I’m from SF so it’s really far. Other than that, the campus is nice and everything. Except there was an overflow for my school (the campus is separated into 6 schools) so I got placed in the oldest school on campus which has really crappy suites. Also to me, San Diego is not as fun as everyone makes it to be. I think if I have a car it would be different but around campus there’s not THAT much things to do. Unless you like the beach but it’s not that important to me.

@wwlink: wow that’s so strict of them…whatever you’re in Davis! I wish I made that choice back in May =(

heheh not yet, I am in the application process right now - I was missing way too many prereqs last time around to get into UCD. This time not only have I the prereqs, but a TAG too <3<3<3.

Good luck man! I know how you feel about Bay Area -> SoCal moves.

@redoplease: Yeah CC seems like the best way; save money, easier, and admission more guaranteed. But at the same time I want to stay 2 more years with my friends and get the college UC experience you know?

If I do transfer in 2 years, what do you think the percentage will be that I get in? expecting that I get B’s and hopefully not but maybe c’s? =/

I think I’ll love UCD too!

well I can’t really say for certain (it’s 2 years away) but i feel like you might get rejected, esp. with Cs. I read somewhere on here that a kid from Irvine wanted to transfer to davis with ~3.3 but got denied. Which is part of the reason I’m going to cc…theres just too much uncertainty with UC to UC transfers!!
good luck with ucsd though!

Hey! I’m in the EXACT same position as you. I am a second year at UCSD and I am looking to transfer to UCD next year (from norcal, don’t like ucsd, etc I could go on forever).

So, from my research, it is VERY difficult to transfer UCs after just freshman year because they recommend that you complete your general ed requirements before transferring. I mean, you could still send in an application because it couldn’t hurt, but it is just unlikely because they give priority to junior transfers. However, I DO know of a kid who transferred to Davis from Santa Cruz after his freshman year, so you never know.

I would suggest going to a community college next year to fulfill your GE requirements. I know it would kind of suck going from the living-on-your-own-away-at-college experience, but then you could enter the TAG agreement and save quite some cash on GEs/smaller class sizes/maybe even a better education. I am actually looking at going to a community college for next semester and hopefully getting into Davis for next fall.

I hope everything works out for you!

As a person who applied UC-UC and also had several friends who did it, I can tell you it really ISN’T that difficult than what people make it out to be. If UCD is your goal, you should be able to get in with a UC GPA of 3.0 - 3.3 as long as you complete all your reqs and your major isn’t ridiculously impacted. You can use [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/) to check the data yourself if you want hard evidence.

If money is an issue, then it would obviously make more sense to go to a CC and wait it out from there. If it isn’t, I can tell you that my freshman + soph year at a UC were incredible. You seem pretty happy with your friends at UCSD and it’s only been a few months, so things are just getting started.

Once you become a junior, then you kinda get bogged down with upper div/difficult courses and you kinda lose all that initial excitement of college, so transferring can make it feel less fun than entering as a freshman. Don’t get me wrong, you’ll still have fun when you transfer, but I just think that freshman dorm life flows perfectly into your soph year and you can really have a great time.

The way I see it:

CC-UC: Save a lot money, more of a guaranteed process, get a higher GPA, get to hang out with all your old friends.

UC-UC: “Freshman experience”, finish upper divs faster, research experience and can get internships easier.

If you have anymore questions about UC-UC, feel free to message me or even check out the previous UC-UC threads on these forums to grab some information.

This reminds me of something a UCB rep told me:

Their “cutoff” is 2.8. If you have a GPA above 2.8 there’s a chance they’ll take you. XD (That was regards to me being a CC student though)

The peeps that go around here spewing crap such as a 4.0 required or a 3.8 required are full of (*@#%. The kind that comes from cows. Like that one spot on I-5… you know what I’m talking about.

I transferred to UCD from a small private LAC with an okay reputation. I still can’t believe I got in since cc students have priority, then UC to UC. I was missing at least 4 prereqs. And I actually got into UCB too.

I had a 3.83 gpa and was the activities director for a club my second year. I also think my essays were pretty good. But it was definately a risk. I didn’t want to have to live back at home and I thought my app for grad school would look pretty screwy with 3 schools on it, so I decided to stay at the LAC and hope for the best. And it worked out!
