UCSD to UCLA chances

Applying as an International Development Studies major
GPA: 3.429 (I know, it's low) 3 courses will have been retaken
Prereqs for major would be fulfilled by end of Spring term.

Is it ridiculous to be hopeful for a UCLA transfer with that GPA?

Thanks for your input.

no, its not ridiculous, just curious, why are you wanting to transfer out of ucsd?

ucsd has nicer weather than ucla.

I'm not even sure that I would leave UCSD at this point, but I want to keep the option open. I've always wanted to go to a college with a decent football team, and of the colleges I originally applied to, I chose the with without a team at all. UCSD just really lacks spirit - I'm not really proud going there in that sense and because of that I feel like I'm really missing out. We have spirit two times a year, unolympics and sungod - and I can visit for sungod. I'm also just not really satisfied with the majors there. I don't like our international studies major which is what I want do - but I love UCLA's.
On top of that La Jolla sucks as a college town - it's simply not one.

I completely agree about UCSD's weather, though. On my list of reasons to stay and go the weather & 5 minute walk to the beautiful beach are on the stay side. I live in LA so I could handle the weather at UCLA, but I would definitely miss skies that are actually blue.

okay. I think your chance of getting into ucla is like 50/50. Just apply and see where it leads you from there. You have until May you decide after you apply.

Is UCLA really smoggy? I thought Westwood was a bit cleaner than downtown.

The entire county is smoggy.

dood ucla/ucsd has the same weather atmosphere... ucsd is a bit cooler id say but thats it.

Both cities have the same weather atmosphere but that has nothing to do with the fact that LA is a smoggier city.

Smog results in trapped hot air, so it can be hotter then what the weather reports say. In UCSD, the temperature is usually a bit lower then what is reported, since wind from the coast can make you feel pretty chilly.

I would say (pure estimation) on average, ucsd is about 10 degrees cooler than ucla, which is perfect.

I went to both. The weather at UCSD is better, the beach access is way better, the crowds are less, but UCLA does have the better football team. It was harder to get the specific classes I wanted at UCLA, but the classes were offered more often (at least back then, UCSD had a lot of year-long sequences where course A was only given in the fall, course B in the winter, and course C in the spring.)

Have you considered going to some of San Diego State's football games?
