does anyone know how to get from ucsd to ucla using public transportation?

the easiest way is probably to take Amtrack to Union Station in Los Angeles, and then take a bus over to UCLA

Has anyone done this in reverse- UCLA to San Diego? How long does it take to get to Union Station? Which bus would you take?

i have - but only to get to Orange County (which only requires taking the Metrolink - which in turn only goes to Oceanside... doesn't help you San Diegans)
It takes about an hour to get to Union Station :(
go to www.mta.net and type in UCLA as the starting point and Union Station as the end. It will give you your travel options.

Thanks! That website's really helpul. We're in the North County, so Oceanside works for us, but I'm sure there are trains that run from Oceanside to San Diego. Also there's a bus that runs between La Jolla and Oceanside. The information is on www.sdcommute.com.
