Haha nope, they only look at your UC-transferable courses.

Also, UCSD doesn’t factor your essays into their application process. They don’t do comprehensive reviews. They care about your GPA, and that’s really it. A buddy of mine got in to UCSD through TAG two years ago and his essay read “I want to go to UCSD.” and that was it. They didn’t even look at it.

Yup. You can fill out something generic if you want (I really wouldn’t advise doing what my buddy did, you don’t want some overzealous admissions reviewer getting ****ed off ) but don’t worry about them at all. They don’t factor in to your decision.

Actually i’m just going to major in chemistry just to be safe, it doesn’t fall into Division of Bio Sciences. so i hope i will be okay, but the thing is i hate chem : ( i don’t want to major in that lol.

Grimes: I’m actually the member who got into UCSD with a 2.86 GPA (to correct your 2.7 respectfully of course) last year (major: structural engineering). I was fighting cancer two out of my three years at a CC and was told to ask for a “Director’s Review” in regards to the application process…

This didn’t guarantee me admission though. I needed to sign an agreement stating that if I was granted admission for fall 2010, I would a) have above a 3.0 GPA by the end of spring, b) finish all prereqs, c) finish igetc… It was a weird situation but worth it in the end.

I will say this though: UCSB and UCI didn’t even throw me a bone. They looked at me, said below a 3.0 is immediate rejection. I think UCSD might be one of the only UC’s that do this…

When you say that you are not guaranteed your major going to UCSD through TAG, is that for impacted majors, or for all? What happens if you do get accepted but don’t get the major you want?

Vintage: I know this was directed towards Grimes but I can answer this if you want my input. UCSD TAG only guarantee’s you admission into the school, not your major. If you’re major is impacted (ie. mechanical engineer, bio, etc) they won’t validate the TAG or something along those lines… It has happened though were people get in but as there secondary major. You have three choices: 1. admit here and do secondary major, 2. admit here as a secondary major and try to petition out of it and into your wanted major after your first quarter (once you establish a UCSD gpa), or 3. choose another UC.

Grimes: No worries dude. But I like it here. Academically I’m doing really well with the exception of one class (probability for engineers but then again everyone is doing terrible in that class) and you meet some really cool people here. However, none of roommates drink… I’m not a big drinker or anything but a beer or a game of bpong is nice every now and then. But good school, social life at the Village is better than expected, and yes I am a confirmed case with the Triton Eye disease… the disease spreads like rapid fire I tell you…

@Vintagesoul: Technically you’re not guaranteed any major, regardless of whether or not it’s impacted, but I’ve never heard of a case of someone getting denied to a non-impacted major despite meeting all TAG requirements. You’ll be fine if the major is non-impacted.

You won’t be admitted into the university without a major, so you’ll definitely want to apply to at least one non-impacted major to (basically) ensure that you’ll at least get in.

@lmendoza: Good to hear! I’ll be at the Village in the fall so I’m down for some bpong :)

I am applying for fall 2011 and I was dumb enough to not fill out a tag. I did however fill out an application and I did fill out a tag for UCSB. I am applying as a communications major and by the end of fall 2010 my gpa is 3.25 and by the end of spring I’m hoping to get it to 3.35. What do you think my chances are of getting in, in all honesty? Thanks for your time and help.
