UCSD Transfer Housing Thread

Heh my question to them was “Why is it more expensive than the other non-transfer apartments?” That’ll be a tough one for them to evade I think.

(I wonder if the hot Asian chick comes with the place. :D)

UC San Diego’s complete Housing package includes everything you need in one easy, comprehensive package!

* A Dining Plan

 • Fully furnished rooms
 • 24/7 high-speed wireless Internet access
 • Utilities (water, electricity, and gas)
 • Premium cable TV
 • Sustainability-focused community
 • Community coordinators to help in your transition

UC San Diego’s estimated rates for the 2009/2010 academic year (including a meal plan) range from $1271-1410/month.

im saying if you live off campus you can probably find roomates and split the cost and it’ll be around $600-$700 dollars…

^^ It’s true, but I don’t think with that kind of price you could get your own room(including utilities and food), you’d have to split the room itself with another person, I really don’t want to do that.

i dunno, my cousin and his 4 roomates are sharing a 4 bedroom house. He gets his own room, and pays $650 a month including cable and utilities.

food on the other hand is simple! 1 quick trip to costco and buy cup of noodles!

Really? That’s pretty damn good… hmmmmmm…Is it close enough to not need a car?

dude its san diego…it should be full of asian girls…lol…hopefully most look like her…haha

daym its going to be hard finding four other people…does the village have garages??

he rides his bike to school. he says its less than a mile. i wouldn’t mind that at all!

I don’t get why they would include a meal plan when, according to the pictures, the apartments have kitchens. I hope the meal plans are optional.

are the dorms available for all transfers?

Its available for all new transfer students…

There’s only about 1000 spaces, they’re going to do a lottery thing.

Hello,

Currently, there are no opt-out provisions for the meal plans. Please feel free to send us your questions anytime.

The Village at Torrey Pines Team!

Hello and thank you for your interest in The Village at Torrey Pines.

Rates for this new community have been established based on several factors to include amenities, views, meal plans and the fact that it is a newly constructed community tied into increased construction costs compared to existing structures built many years before.

Hope this helps and we look forward to your staying with us.

Regards,

Well this saturday i was up in san diego because my sister just moved there. She’s about 5 mins from the UCSD campus and I wanted to take a little drive through it and see the new housing being built. I’d have to say that it looks like it could possibly be done by the time transfers start in September. The buildings are up, I think that the interior is what needs to be done so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible. I must say that UCSD looked amazing that day and it was probably the clearest and nicest day I’ve seen in a long time anywhere.

bumps

How’d this go for you guys?

I went and checked out The Village. Really nice place. Expensive… yeah, but I’ll probably end up doing it so I don’t have to drive/take a bus.

im posting this from the village as we speak,

so my experience as a winter transfer:

was placed in a room with 3 complete strangers as I opted for an ocean view ($200 more), and they are really cool people who I might have not otherwise met living off campus. Being a transfer student and living in a building with similar transfer students definitely has its advantages as everyone is friendly and has had similar backgrounds from community college. Being on campus is a plus as I can hop on one of the various shuttles circling the school and be at my class in 10-20 mins versus commuting to school and fighting for parking (it is a nightmare here as with every school).

I would advise you guys to go here in the beginning because it will ease the transition a lot. The price is astronomical compared to what you get though, no AC, and sharing a room (unless you are lucky enough to get a single). I am definitely going off campus once my lease is over (summer) so I can get my car down here and shuttle to campus.

so I am paying ~$1400 a month, as with 3 other people. If we were all to pool our money (~$5600), we could get a decent sized house or something nearby so that is some food for thought. The village is not for everyone, but I am glad to say it has been a positive experience thus far (its only been 5 weeks)

if you have any questions feel free to ask or pm.

$1400 a month and no AC? What the heck?!

So 3-5 people… how many bedrooms are there generally?

^^no ac because they are trying to be ‘green’, aka cut costs lol

ummm there are 8 buildings with different layouts in each. If you go to the village website (google search:ucsd village), you can see the floor plans.

ask away.
