UCSD Transfer Unit Requirement

I would like to transfer to UCSD for 2014-2015. However, I will only have 38 units by the beginning of this upcoming fall quarter. My fall quarter ends on December 16, and by then I will have 56 units, but this date falls after the November 30 transfer application date for UCSD, and I thought I saw somewhere that you must have 45 units by then. Am I still eligible to apply for transfer even though I will only have 38 units by the application date, or must one have 45 units by that time? Thank you,

Here’s what it says in the UCSD website for Transfer Admission Requirements:

Where did you read that you only needed 45 units???

Thank you smurray for replying. Under “California community college applicants” on the transfer admission requirements page it says “to be considered a California community college student, you must […] complete at least 30 semester UC-transferable units (45 quarter units.” But I can’t really tell if that’s required to apply as a transfer student or not because it’s a little bit unclear…

I think the 45 quarter units is if you are doing TAG because I remember that for TAG you needed 45 quarter or 30 semester units to qualify. You just need to finish 90 quarter credits by spring.

As your own quote says, “to be considered a California community college student”. You don’t have to qualify as a ccc student to transfer. Where are you transferring from? You said you’re in the quarter system, so I’m going to assume you’re at a UC, in which case the ccc requirements don’t apply to you. You still need to complete the minimum number of units required for any transfer applicant, which @smurray posted. Either way, you have until the Spring semester before you transfer to complete the required amount of units.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

SBVett,
I’m actually at a cc that uses the quarter system. This is why I got confused because I didn’t know if I have to fall into this definition of a ccc student to fill out the application. I believe you and smurray are right and I just need the 90 by time of transfer. I think this policy of having 45 quarter units just applies to the TAG like annab says (thanks annab!). I of course emailed admissions so I’m just waiting to here back from them. Anyways thanks all of you for the help, makes me feel better.

Oh gotcha. That’s pretty cool that your cc is in the quarter system  But don’t worry, when you fill out the application you don’t have to select which type of applicant you are - community college, other CA transfer, out of state, etc. You just list your schools and classes. So you’re safe to be considered under whichever category you fall in (probably ccc transfer), since they are the ones who determine that. Contacting admissions is always the best way to go, anyway. Good luck!

Hey SbVett,
I just heard back from admissions and they confirmed what you and the others said: there is no requirement for number of units completed by the time of handing in your application if you’re not filling out a TAG, just by the end of the the school year before transfer. I just wanted to thank you as well as the others though, because I was freaking out thinking I might not be able to apply to any UCs and your responses calmed me down while I was waiting to hear back from admissions. So thank you! This forum is a lifesaver :)
