I’m seeing a few people with large aid offers from UC Irvine. I got one too. But UCSD is offering me $5k flat. Is this stuff still preliminary? Because I just can’t afford the rest and I’ve only got til Sunday form my SIR. So I’m kinda bummed. Not that UCI is a bad school and getting paid to go there sounds amazing, but UCSD’s offer isn’t even comparable, so I feel like I don’t have much of a choice here!

My first post after reading many helpful commons in this forum so thank all!. I just knew that I got in couple hours ago. my gpa is 3.35 and I am majoring in computer science. I am so happy, really happy, I cant even sleep because of this happy feeling. Being a Vietnamese who came to US at age 21, I really had a tough time to learn English so I never thought that I couldn’t be able transfer to UCSD when i started going to college. However, I made it…I want to share my feeling with everyone here and i hope people who are still in the waitlist will get accepted later. Hope to see you guys at UCSD on fall 2013.

Accepted off waitlist June 4
Human Biology Marshall
GPA 3.25, should be going up to 3.3+ after spring grades.
UCSD was my first choice
SIRd to UCSB torn on where to go now.

@gamer142 you should visit both campuses and see what you will feel like going for next 2 or 3 years. about the financial aid, they always estimate it higher than you need. except for the cost of tuition and books everything else is up to you to plan how you going to spend. UC IRVINE is a good school and irvine is a good city but UCSD and LA JOLLA are better(in my opinion) I hated UC irvine for its old look from the first i went there to study as i just live very close. Didn’t feel like good at all(people aren’t friendly) and now i hate uc irvine more because they rejected me even with having TAG and all req met!!!

I got in to UCR but didnt want to there. then I visited the campus and i knew i would be happy to come to that university for the next 2/3 years. awesome campus, nice people, hot chicks, longboarding etc…!!!

Its all depend on how you feel about the campus so just visit both schools if you can. I will be going to UCSD today and i’ll tell you guys more when I am back!!!

Hi everyone i have a question. So i got accepted off waitlist like everyone here but i got a problem with the financial aid paper. When i logged in the signon website it showed that i have to submit the verified recidency document and the deadline is May 21. It is June now so do i need to call them to ask or just send the required paper to the FA office? Thanks!

Just got in for physiology & neuroscience for Revelle yesterday. I already SIRed and applied for housing as a bio major at Irvine. SD was my dream school but now I’m conflicted, I have an internship at Hoag Hospital in Newport that I want to remain involved with and all my creature comforts around south Orange County, plus a plain bio major would offer more flexibility than physio & neuro, still I think I’d regret not going to SD. Going to check things out tomorrow, bah!

Lot of Biological Science Departmental majors getting accepted off the waitlist! Hope to see you all during Transfer Orientation Day!

For all those who already SIR’ed to another UC and are conflicted, I understand how you feel! I visited the campus and am a bit familiar with San Diego (from visiting multiple times) and I’m set for it.

For those who got into biological sciences at Irvine, that’s the reason why I did not choose Irvine over Davis or SD because the major is too broad. I would like my major to be more specific to what I want to do, not anything and everything in the biological sciences field. Irvine is beautiful, it has beaches like SD, close to malls and what not. But San Diego just has so much more to offer. It’s GEARED toward research, clinicals, and volunteering. (For those who need to boost their academic resume this should be a plus!)
It all depends on the major and how happy you are going to be on the campus.

For Science majors, I’d pick SD over Irvine. What’s tough was Davis vs. SD =X

Hey guys so for those of you that have SIR’ed already, how do you know your “done” filling out the info necessary before the SIR deadline? For example on my application checklist it says they received my SIR, the Statement of Legal Residence Form has been completed, and my college info and major are displayed. I also paid the $100 deposit and received a confirmation email acknowledging they received my payment. Am I solid so I won’t miss anything by the June 9th deadline?

@rockr805 hey when u did the sir, did they direct you to the web page to pay for it? it didnt do anything like that for me. do you get financial aid? it could be because of the financial aid…

and for those who apply for financial aid, does it say " you haven’t completed fafsa for 2013-14 blah blah blah"?

@zcarfaz I read that not all applicants are required to make the $100 deposit. I don’t remember exactly when I had to pay it, but I believe it was towards the end of submitting the SIR portion, but before completing the Legal Residence Form (although it might have popped up after the residence form). I’m getting a nice chunk of financial aid btw.

Where are you seeing the “you haven’t completed fafsa for …” Because when I click ‘check your financial aid status’ I can see my award info.

@zcarfaz yo! I’m experiencing the exact same thing as you. I didn’t have to pay for anything but my SIR was received and the statement of legal resident is completed. And when I go to view Financial Aid, mine also says they have not received it. This freaked me out because I’m broke as a mf, haha, but I called a Rep and the lady told me that a handful of recent acceptees from the waitlist have not been updated yet and they’ll be trying to update the information by next Monday.

Hey u all, I was admitted on Tuesday as psychology major and my Gpa when the time I applied was 3.63( I did not finish the requirements for psycho) , im so happy and congraz all of you who were accept off the waitlist too!

And here I have a question, to those who have already sir for ucsd (accept off the waitlist), do you need to decline to the school you did SIR (for example UCD and ucsb), or just SIR ucsd first and then decline the first SIR u have turned in already? Cuz I SIR UCSB BEFORE 6/1… Do I need to decline it first in order to SIR for ucsd?

Why did some of you not have to pay the $100 deposit? I’m curious because I had to pay it.

I think you are solid @ Rockr805. You just need to do the alcohol thing, Triton thing, submit your TB test results, and some other things before you can register for classes though. But those are due before the quarter begins.

I also have the “you haven’t completed fafsa for 2013-14” thing. They did give me an estimate on financial aid though. How much are you guys receiving if you don’t mind answering?

@gamer142 I did the funny alcohol thing and TB test already. However for some other things, such as the triton thing (if I remember correctly) dont you need you ucsd email? Because I haven’t gotten my email yet. I’m getting ~$15k in FA.

the message “We don’t have a record that you have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a California Dream Act Application for the year you have chosen.” shows up when I go to financial aid tool tab in my tritonlink —> financial aid —> 2013/14.
Yeah same here, I got the accepted to some grants and they are giving me around 20k without work study.
BTW guys, did you had to fill out the TB test other than the online thing? I have to and i guess thats because i have been to Asia. I have to take my application to a health care provider!!
and the drug test, you would just do it online right? and nothing to submit to the campus?

I am just worried that they d find something to revoke my admission even after i took off my SIR from the other schools…
