UCSD UCD change major to mechanical engineering?

I'm going to be applying for fall transfer at ucsd and ucd. my goal is to earn a bachelors in mechanical engineering. however i dont think i will be able to apply for that major due to my lack of prereqs. i planned out my next 3 quarters and saw that i will not have completed a years worth of math prereqs (1c&1d calc courses, diff equations, linear alg), -2 physics@ucsd and -3 physics@davis by the end of spring (but i plan to take 1 more physics and 1 more calc class during the summer even though it wont count in my 3 quarter course plan prior to transfer). my cumulative gpa as of the end of summer is 3.19, uc transferable gpa is 3.33. given my classes for fall, im pretty sure it'll be about 3.45 by the end of the quarter. i'll also be taking courses at another cc.
so i've assumed that applying for mechanical engineering might be a lost cause for these two schools.
if i take the lower division requirements for another major, like history for example, along with two calc courses (3 including summer), one physics (2 including summer) & two chem courses and transfer in with a history major, how likely is it that i may be able to declare mechanical engineering after a quarter or two of being at whichever school i get accepted to? assuming that i will be continuing the mech engineering prereqs over there as well...

i have about 65 uc transferable units, about 85 total (took a bunch of interest classes)

no volunteer work YET, at least in the past year. i've been working alot though. IT/technician, restaurants. 25-35hrs/week
my ec's are pretty much fixing cars & motorcycles. nothing official i guess.

sorry if this was really long and confusing, im in a pretty tight fix. cal poly slo would be my number 1 choice but their pre reqs are completely out of sight for me if i want to be out of here in a year.

what do you think my chances are? any advice?
personally i want to apply as mechanical engineering, but i dont think i should.

It is highly recommended that for UC Davis you continue at your community college until all all admissions requirements are completed for your engineering program. I'm sure the same would be true for UCSD but, please check with them. It is not advised to apply into a non-selective major with the idea of changing your major at a later date.

you have a lot of courses to complete still, why not just work them out at CC at a normal pace and apply when you are ready, which would probably be better for next fall.

Also, some of the schools usually have open spots for engineering in the other quarters but this varies from year to year.

Take your time on these hard prep courses and do well in them, do not rush through them just for the sake of transferring . THis is the foundation of engineering and you better know math and physics very very well if you want to complete your degree.

yeah lately ive just been thinking about waiting it out at the cc for another year or two. perhaps i may realize later on that mechanical engineering is not my thing. hopefully not. thanks for the advice
