Quick Note: Religion, Hawaiian history, speech, health, and P.E. classes are requirements at my school. For junior year, only 1 AP is offered. For senior year, I was recommended into AP Calculus - should I take it as well?

SAT Scores:
1st: 1750 (560V, 560M, 630W)
2nd: 1820 (520V, 590M, 710W)
Will be retaking the SAT in October, ACTs in September, and SATIIs in November
*Should I repost after I receive these scores?

Volunteer Work:
- Tokai College (freshmen year)
*My school is near a hospital where I can volunteer throughout the school year - do you think this will substantially boost the look of my resume (I'll have to work 4hrs/week if so)?

ECs (by year of most dedication):
- Interact Club (9)
- Social Committee (11) *plans school dances, and other social events
- Japan Wizard Tournament Competitor (11) *three students represent our school in a statewide competition for a free trip to Japan
- Team America Rocketry Challenge (12) *limited to only 7 people - we represent our school in a national competition
- Cross Country Member (9, 10)
- Service Committee (9, 10) *leads schools' community services
- Math Club (11, 12) *president for both years [I'm not excellent at math, but I'm a great leader]
- Amnesty International Club (11, 12) *vice president for both years [demotes violence against women, promotes rights for freedoms, etc.]
- Class Social Committee (10, 11, 12)
- Tour Guide Club (9, 10, 11, 12) *guides families who are interested in applying to our school
*On the Common App, it lists yearbook and orchestra as an extra curricular activity; however, at much school, it's considered a class, and one receives a grade for it - can I still put it on as an EC?

Recommendations:
I plan to have about 3 from teachers who teach different subjects (English, Japanese, and Physics). I might consider my principal (good idea? bad idea?)

Essay:
I plan to focus on the communication problem at home. My parents are immigrants, but I'm not as fluent in my native land's language as I am in English. This causes a problem because my parents and I misunderstand each other and argue over things caused by cultural difference, and language barriers.
*I don't know if this is a bad choice or not considering that most schools I want to apply to are located in CA, which is loaded with Asians, so I might not stand out from everyone else.

This is my first time on this site, and I'd truly appreciate it if you could give me your thoughts. I think it's polite to chance back, so I will do so! Any comments, suggestions, feedbacks will do. Constructive criticism is also welcomed and appreciated.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION :)

bumpbumpbump

i imagine everyone is asleep, so i’ll check back in the morning
reply if you can, please and thank you!

honestly, i think your into all of those schools except for ucla which will probably be a reach, but apply anyways cuz u never know, jus make sure u take the math level 2 sat subject test for ucla cuz they do NOT accept math level 1

She didn’t even say UCLA.

I think you have a good chance at all of these schools, but to be safe raise your SATs hopefully to 2000 since you’re OOS for the UCs.

o haha my bad, i thot it said university of california los angeles, yea i didnt know u said usc, yea pretty much you have a good chance with all those schoools

Thank you, thank you!
I will do my best to raise my SAT scores to 2000s :)

Are there any other suggestions? :o!

University of California, San Diego - reach (OOS)

University of Washington, Seattle - match

University of California, Irvine - high match

University of California, Davis - reach

Boston University, Boston - match

University of Southern California, Los Angeles - match

Your UC GPA is a bit low for the higher UCs; you could try to raise your GPA and your SATs to help your chances with these schools.

thanks for replying, welles!

i’m sorry to bother you once more, but i’m new here, so i’d like to know what does ‘match’ mean. i think i know what reach means though :D

match means that u fit the description of the avergae high school senior that got accepted…i think lol, all i know is that its a good thing ha

oh really? that’s good news!

well thanks once again, babydough
you’ve truly been a great help :D

bump bump
if there are any other suggestions, comments, i’ll be on-off the whole day, so please reply :D

i hope i’m not being greedy, but i’d like to very much hear what other people think of my chances
it’s very much appreciated!

bump :x
i’d like to here from more people, please and thank you ^___^

hello paperdolls,

you have a lot of classes (O_O) but yeah I think you should focus on getting SAT II scores; from your standing… I’d say take Math II and Japanese =)
UC schools stress the prep scores since there is like 30k++ applications each year…so the college admissions officers don’t really have the time to look at the whole package (ec’s and essays are weighted less)
Hopefully you can get your test scores up because right now its kinda below average for OOS.

University of California, San Diego - reach

University of Washington, Seattle - not sure…

University of California, Irvine - high match

University of California, Davis - high match

Boston University, Boston - match

University of Southern California, Los Angeles - high reach

Write good essays and stand out!

If your principal would give you a good recommendation, I don’t see how that would be a bad thing:) As far as your statistics go, I would try to work on improving your SAT. However, if you find yourself doing significantly better on the ACT, you can always send that as an alternative. From the information you have provided us with, I would say:

  1. University of California, San Diego - reach
2)University of Washington, Seattle - match
  2. University of California, Irvine - match
  3. University of California, Davis - high match
    5)Boston University, Boston - match
6)University of Southern California, Los Angeles - mid reach
    Good luck!

University of California, San Diego - reach

University of Washington, Seattle - In

University of California, Irvine -match

University of California, Davis - high match

Boston University, Boston - match

University of Southern California, Los Angeles - reach

I think you are a very well-rounded student that has a bright future. Sounds cheesy, but Im serious. If I were to say anything for improvement, I would say raise the GPA and I dont know about the SAT, cause your class-rigor and extracurrics kind of cover for it ;). But if you have any time, study like crazy, and try to pull off 100+ point increase. If you can’t reach over that, then just forget it. Colleges dont like you repeating the SATs over and over and not increasing your score significantly.

I would say your in at UW

henryclay: thank you so much for your suggestions and advice <3 i go to a really small college prep school, so i’m basically forced to take all these courses =___= or not forced, but there’s competitions from where i am (although it’s incomparable to larger competitive public and private school). i’m thinking of taking physics and japanese for SAT IIs (i’m not so brilliant at math) :stuck_out_tongue: but one thing that you did point out that i never thought of before was the whole prep scores > essays, recs, etc. O___O it clearly makes sense though, so i’ll do my best to put in a lot of effort into my prep scores and write awesome essays  thank you thank you!

wartsandall: thanks a lot to you too! i will ask my principal for a rec and see if she agrees. i e-mail her a lot asking about things at our school, so hopefully she’ll say something like i’m not afraid to ask questions or something like that? i will be taking the ACT and SAT again for sure, so hopefully both will be appealing. thanks again for your time, thoughts, and for chancing me!

ilikeuw: i like your username :stuck_out_tongue: but more than that, i like your advices and i’m very grateful for them. i don’t think you’re cheesy at all, but i don’t think i’m as well-rounded as other students on this website. not to mention, i’m seriously lacking in community services, which isn’t too good. thanks for the chances and time! you’re a seriously great confidence booster :)

THANKS TO EVERYONE! i think that’s all i’ll be asking for  thank you so much for all your advices and thoughts - you have no idea how much your opinions matter to me. thank you a zillion times over  good luck to every one of you, i hope we’ll all make it to the schools we want, and perhaps we’ll be classmates ;)

(if you still want to contribute your thoughts and time, that’d be really cool, it’s still welcomed, but not needed) i’ll be checking often. i don’t know much about universities other than the ones i want to attend to, but if you’d like me to chance you, i’ll do my best.

MAHALO (thank you) :)

storm18: sorry i didn’t see your message sooner! :frowning: thanks for thoughts as well!
perhaps we’ll be classmates at usc  wouldn’t that be interesting?

Hey!

University of California, San Diego - reach (OOS), If in state, I think you could have been a match.

University of Washington, Seattle - match

University of California, Irvine -match

University of California, Davis - match

Boston University, Boston - match

University of Southern California, Los Angeles - Not sure, No one’s chancing me to know lol.

My GPA is much lower then yours, but my SAT’s are higher, we are both trying to get into the same schools!

Is Boston Univ a good college for engineering?
