UCSD undeclared to CS

I’ve been accepted to UCSD for undeclared, sixth college. I’d like to transfer into computer science.
Any ucsd students who transferred into CS want to share their experience?

Questions: How was the process?
How long did it take?
Very difficult? Not so much?
Any other information that would help me would be appreciated.

Would it be worth the risk to go to UCSD undeclared over UCI with CS?

Thanks in advance

I entered UCSD as a CS major before the CSE department turned impacted, but I was at freshmen orientation last year. From what I heard (and what I was told to tell people who got accepted to UCSD but not as CS), is that the introductory classes (CSE 8A/11) are going to be packed and CS majors get priority in signing up for those classes.

According to CSE department’s website, to be eligible for submitting a major change application:
Minimum of eight units of courses completed at UC San Diego for a letter grade, drawn from the following courses: CSE 8B or CSE 11, CSE 12, CSE 15L, CSE 20 (or Math 15A in WI14 and WI15), CSE 21, CSE 30, and CSE 100.
All of the following courses (or their accepted equivalent) must have been completed prior to application: CSE 8B or 11, CSE 12, CSE 15L, and CSE 20 (or Math 15A in WI14 and WI15).

And, as I said above, since you might find it difficult to sign up for the intro classes during the peak quarters (fall: 8A/11/20, winter: 8B/12/20, spring 15L), you might have to wait longer before you can start taking them. But if you’re diligent enough (and by that I mean taking more courses/quarter, or not being able to break up the more time-consuming upper div classes across multiple quarters), catching up later on should not be too bad.

But again, I did not have to go through this process, so take my advice with a grain of salt. What I said was from my past experience at the freshmen orientation advising the incoming freshmen and their parents, and being here as a CSE student for 4 years.

Hello!

First and foremost, congrats!

Highskoolgrad10 is right about the courses you need to take and the status of packed cse classes.

I’m currently a freshman going through the application process and I’ve answered some of the questions you had in another thread:

I too was accepted as an undeclared major, including sixth college. I’m not transferring as a freshman, however. I’m currently a tutor for the CC I attend (I tutor Java/C/C++ etc from logic to Data Structures etc).

Does anyone know how a transfer student would have to go about in attempting to declare as a CS major, at some point? I was missing some math and physics, which is why I assume they didn’t take me in as a CS major transfer.

@WTFScreenName You can apply into the CS major when you meet these eligibility requirements:
