so i got accepted to ucsd and ucsb as did many of you californians. i was accepted to the psych program and i can't decide between the two. both are good schools--ucsd is supposedly better but i think thats cuz of their science programs, but ucsb supposedly has a really good pysch program. the people at ucsd just seem so dry or nerdy or w/e you wanna call it, but the city is really nice. any advice would be appreciated. thanks!

this really comes down to your preference. like you said, sd is dry and nerdy. sb is more of a party school. if you want to be around nerds go to sd, if you want to parties go to sb. pretty simple.

do you think that by going to ucsb i would be sacrificing like...prestige or do you think it doesn't matter for these two schools? the psych program and ucsb was recommended, whereas nothing was said about the program and ucsd. i haven't found a site that addresses this yet so i appreciate your replies.

I don't think you'd be sacrificing prestiege.

I mean when you go for a job interview, I'm sure whoever is hiring you would much rather care about your personality, skills, etc, rather than what UC you went to.

does anyone know how the psych programs stack up against eachother? theres not too much info on the quality of the sb psych program, just that they built a new building dedicated to psych recently

My two cents as a parent living in SD: UCSD has a great reputation. more prestige, and a great medical school right there. My oldest son went to UCSB; next three children were not even allowed to apply there. Isla Vista is not a safe place to live. Go for SD.
