UCSD Village Triple Room (Don't Do It!!!!)

I lived in the Village (West) in a triple.
The apartments are really good, lots of spaces, cool people, it's almost perfect to the point where I would never complain.

HOWEVER..for future transfers and/or people who think saving another $1600(if you wanted Single) or $800 (if you wanted Double) for an academic year is a good idea....

DON'T DO IT.
I repeat.
DON'T DO IT

Unless you can arrange a 3-people friends group, DO NOT, under any circumstances, pick to be in a triple room.
I was actually worried about attending any UC at all due to my financial situation and I've always thought that as long as I have a place to live I would be fine. Yes, that is true, having a place to live is fine in most cases, but certainly not this one.

So here's the secret to the triples that the UCSD website will not explain to you:
They are merely rooms made for 2-people transformed into a 3-people room. The spaces are VERY VERY uneven (I happen to be the last one to get in there so I got the absolutely worst spot). I'd post a picture of how it looks but it'd be a violation of privacy of my past roommates, but believe me when I tell you that the spaces are just bull crap. Basically if we were to divide the spaces among 3 people, person with largest space will get about 45% of room space, second person gets about 30%, and the least unfortunate person gets only 25% of space. Of course you could try talk it out with your roommate, but you can't win an argument because there's a "first come first serve" policy.
Let's move on to the bed space. As you can see on UCSD website, they just stack beds on top of your desk and your wardrobes. No problem with that? Yep, not really a problem EXCEPT you cannot even sit up from your bed, that's how close you are to the ceiling.

I've seen a lot of threads on College Confidential from the past about how people don't want a room mate or they only want singles and whatnot. You thought doubles were small? No, not at all, doubles are HUMONGOUS and comfortable if you've ever lived in one of the triples before, and singles are just HEAVEN.

Triple rooms in the village are just not worth it, especially when you are stuck there 11 weeks a quarter, 33 or more weeks an year, think about it. Pay $800 more for 33 weeks (so it's like $90 more per month) for a lot more happiness is highly recommended.

It's your one and only college experience, think wisely.

Oh yeah, the dining plan is not good at all like everyone else says.

I’m living a triple dorm, not even an apartment, and its pretty bad, in the sense of privacy and ability to sleep. I can’t work on my computer anywhere except my desk, hit my head getting up every morning.

I know where your coming from. I find it hard to believe I’m paying ~13k for what is pretty much a hostel. But I guess that is college. But most of the time you can’t even get a double, especially as a transfer.

My daughter was in a triple. It’s not ideal but she didn’t complain.
