UCSD VIP Tour 2016

@gonewiththeair do you think We have been accepted?!

@AlexG2016 Yes! They gave you free food and clothes and complimented you all on your application. I don’t think they would have done that if you had been denied

@gonewiththeair well I sure hope it’s true! And thank you so much! I really needed this because I’ve been working so hard these past four years. I’m sure everyone here on this forum has as well but when you finally see the end goal it’s so assuring. Honestly UCSD had such an impact on me when I went there that I’ve fallen in love with the school.

@gonewiththeair If you are trying to get into UCSD as well, I wish you luck. And didn’t get a chance to mention it before but your username is awesome haha

The VIP tour really was an amazing experience. I already loved UCSD and getting the opportunity to attend a VIP tour only increased my appreciation and admiration of the school. I really hope that I do get in (as well as you guys)!

@Baileehunter did you attend the tour on Thursday?!

@AlexG2016 Yeah I did! From the way you described it I might have been in your same group. Did you have the girl tour guide?

@Baileehunter In fact I did haha! The rower correct? I was the one who asked a lot of questions hahaha.

@AlexG2016 Okay yeah I know who you are then. You’re the guy with the wifi tower haha

@Baileehunter hahaha oh my. Parents can often bring up the most random things hahaha. Who were you?

I don’t know if this helps explain who I was but I had my mom with me and after lunch we came out to wait for the dorm tour while sitting on the steps (on the other side of you and your dad I think)

Kinda haha, did you get the vibe that we were accepted? @Baileehunter

@AlexG2016 yeah I did!! Especially at the end in the presentation room. It seems like a lot of money and work to go through for students they didn’t think would actually get the chance to attend. I know the UC’s are strict in what they can say and technically until March everything is subject to change, but it defiantly feels like they are subtly telling us they plan on accepting us. After the presentation I talked to the the woman who set up the tour and she said that the reason we got picked is because she wanted us all to experience UCSD because we all have good applications, and she wanted to make sure we remember UCSD when we get back our admission decisions. At the very least they are obviously interested in us. And during the presentation she kept making a big deal about Triton Day in April (which is after we find out if we are admitted) and encouraged us to go on the website to watch the count down and get excited and it would be cruel to have us do that only to find out we are declined (and yeah that isn’t really a good indicator but idk it could possibly mean something?)

@Baileehunter WOW… After reading what you said in regards to her commenting on us and mentioning we should keep UCSD in mind is quite convincing. You’re right… Why would they have done all of that for us if we were to be denied. Cruel would be an understatement haha.

@AlexG2016 I’m hesitant to get my hopes up but it looks really, really good  If we both get admitted maybe we will see each other around campus, although it’s really big so maybe not haha

@Baileehunter I agree with getting our hopes up. However, there can only be so many signs until you start thinking otherwise. Sounds good! What college did you apply to? I applied to ERC.

@AlexG2016 Top three in order: Muir, Marshall, Warren Just talking about it makes me excited! Fingers crossed on our admission.

@Baileehunter ERC and Muir were my top. Fingers crossed indeed!

Congratulations again you guys! And thanks @Baileehunter  I love “Gone with the Wind!”
Idk if you guys live in San Diego or not but if you’ll be around for Triton Day I highly encourage you guys to do the Triton 5k! I don’t think I’ll be doing it this year because it conflicts with the LA Times Book Festival (the 5k used to be in June) but I’ve done it every year of high school and it’s a ton of fun. It’s another great way to see the school!

Just thought I’d update you guys about the VIP Tour. I attended earlier today and thought that it was certainly an interesting experience. I cannot say for certain what it was for (though I wouldn’t be surprised if it is for Regents, as I saw someone mention before) but what I do know is that they were really stressing that we attend their school. That much was clear. Just from the logic that they probably wouldn’t spend money on people they did not plan on admitting or inviting attendees to Triton Day, which is obviously only for accepted students. I personally felt that the people invited were of a certain type. I’m not sure how well I can read people, but they felt like those really smart kind of people. Not to mention the fact that someone from my own school was also there and they are one of the top students and have a ton of activities under their belt. I don’t understand where I fit in since my SAT isn’t nearly high enough at 1930 to be in any kind of top tier, but the admissions officers there certainly made us feel as though we were top applicants (by suggesting that we keep UCSD in mind even though we are competitive applicants applying to other schools). Also, I noted that every person was from California (at least in my tour group anyway). It was a fun experience. Very pleasant and nice. We got a shirt and a bag. Interestingly they gave us these nice folders with a contact card that hooks us up with admissions directly to answer any questions. Interesting. I just thought I’d share with you guys my experience to add to the speculation going on here. Congrats to those that got invited, whatever that may mean, and everyone, good luck with decisions coming out soon!
