UCSD vs Dartmouth vs USC for Premed

The graduate biology program really doesn't matter as much for premed as people think. The average grades at Dartmouth are higher, and Dartmouth is a better school overall if you want to change majors, so I'd go there.

I remember reading the memoirs of Koop, ex-surgeon general. He went to Darthmouth and majored in zoology. He made Darthmouth sound like an awesome school. I'd pick it over the other two schools any day.

UCSD (look at the rankings)

yeah ucsd is better dart. may have good grad school for med but uCSD is more known

UCSD is more known than Dartmouth? Where, is San Diego??????? Are you kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ucsd and dartmouth have an exchange program (sister schools like the OP said). so which ever one you go to, you can experience both! haha

pick the ivy league school

gosh, I spelled Dartmouth all wrong in my previous post. Idiota!!

Anyway, it wouldn't be stupid to pick UCSD over Dartmouth. I still say you should go to Dartmouth though. Have you visited them both? Just pick the one you like the most.

The question seems almost surreal; dartmouth is the obvious choice unless UCSD is offering you a spot in the afore mentioned highly rated grad school program; I assume UCSD has not decided to allow you to skip undergrad and plop right into its grad school a college virgin.

Facts are facts; Dartmouth has a far better rep across the country than UCSD. Perhaps in Southern California or the Baja peninsula, UCSD has a better rep--if you plan on staying there UCSD might be an easier choice...but not a better one.

As to pre-med, the elite grad schools have spoken. Dartmouth is top 10, UCSD, as was mentioned earlier, did not even break into the top 50!

Dartmouth all the way!

http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/history/graham/Biochemistry%20Data.htm

wow, even UCR is ranked higher than Dartmouth. Does that mean you have a better chance of getting into med school if you do your undergrad at UCR rather than at Dartmouth? No, because Dartmouth has a great reputation. Not that UCSD doesn't have a good rep, but dart is better.

that ranking is really flawed....

Yes, UCR is better! What, btw, is UCR? Anyway, Dartmouth scores LOW and is just the worst possible college. The Ivy League has kicked it out!! UCSD (heard of this one) is much better known. So is South Dakota U. Anywhere but Dartmouth!!!!!!!

Wow, people on this board are uninformed. Those are graduate rankings, they have nothing to do with admission into med school!! Dartmouth has one of the best graduate placements into med school in the country, UCSD isnt even close. Someone said UCSD has a better rep than Dartmouth? On what planet?

Planet San Diego. Shhhhhhh, I'm trying to single handedly lower the yield!

why would anyone even assume that the original poster wants to major in biochem or molecular bio? not that it matter since those are grad school rakings. but he could be majoring in anything. ucsd is good for bio and biomed enginnering, but overall, dartmouth is a lot better. not to mention, the social scene is better at dart. well, im assuming that, because how could it be possible for a school be more socially dead than UCSD?
