After applying to several of the top CS schools, I have only managed to get accepted into UCSD. I also have a near full ride at one of my state's schools, OU, thanks to National Merit. I have yet to hear back from University of Michigan and Stanford, but I honestly don't think I'll have any luck at Stanford, and a small chance at UMich.

UCSD is significantly higher ranked in CS than OU, and seems like a much better school overall. I have not yet visited it, but I will next month. The trade-off is that I will probably not receive any financial aid from UCSD, whereas, OU, as previously stated, will be much, much cheaper. Does anyone here have any advice?

I would say if you can afford UCSD without the aid definitely go there. However, I don’t know how much you have saved up for college, and if attending UCSD will leave you thousands of dollars in debt after graduation, you may want to reconsider how much you really want to go there. Try to visit both schools, especially UCSD, before making any final decisions would be my greatest advice because you may fall in love with one over the other when you are physically on the campus and your choice will become a lot easier.

Yeah, I feel like I’ll definitely know after I visit each of them. I’ve been to OU on multiple occasions, but I haven’t yet toured it. I was just wondering if the better school was worth $50,000 per year. As for the debt afterwards, I’m sure there will be some, but my parents are willing to help for a good portion of it.

Edit: I forgot to add something. CS is an impacted major at UCSD, which from my understanding, means that I will be competing for my space in the major. Should that change my decision at all. I figured I have a decent shot at it considering my SAT scores and GPA (2290 Super-score, and 4.0 UW; school very small and does not offer AP).
