UCSD vs. SDSU

Where would you go? And why?

This is what I've heard of the schools, so correct me if I'm wrong!

UCSD - strong academics, amazing campus and location, great beaches, perfect weather, laid-back attitude but classes can get pretty competitive, lacking social life, sports aren't on everyone's mind, school spirit....not so much.

SDSU - academics are on the rise, great business and communication programs, sports are big but not the best, people are happy at SDSU, close to beaches, perfect weather, beautiful campus, amazing social life, crazy frat parties, students are laid-back.

It seems to me that SDSU may be a more desirable school, but does UCSD's academic dominance make up for its problems?

Okay, this is just me hating on SDSU, but you're obviously going to get a better education and more opportunities at UCSD. Also, I have a friend going to SDSU, and he says that the people are dumb. Seriously, like, how the hell did they get into college sort of dumb. The majority of the people don't know how to do anything else but party, drink, and have sex. And, the majority of the classes are so easy, that it's not even cool anymore.

But that's just one person's opinion. You should take a tour of both schools, and definitely get more opinions, pros and cons of both schools, because you seem to have gotten most of the cons of UCSD and all the pros of SDSU.

yeah and it depends what you want to go to college for- the academics/education or the parties...

UCSD and SDSU could not be any different... I "would" go to UCSD if I had to choose though because I live 3 minutes away from SDSU, and I could always go to parties there after I came home for a visit.

UCSD................... 3rd best school in the UC system....

I know some people who went to SDSU, and they all say that academics there are a joke. If you're really looking to learn and to recieve an education, SDSU isn't the right choice.

As for social life, you're going to hear this A LOT. Your social life is what you make it. You want a party? SDSU is 10 minutes away from UCSD.

Yah thanks for all the comments......I already decided that I would go to UCSD over SDSU.

your joking right??

is SDSU even a credited school?

I am not sure if their diploma even means anything. besides your the dumb school in San Diego.

i've had two brilliant professors who were products of the CSU system, and neither would take kindly to you bashing their schools like that.

Guy from my HS who went to SDSU for Civil Engineering is now in U of Mich for his Masters

lolwut?

Both good schools; both give you opportunities to learn and grow; neither is a free ride to a better future.

I think SDSU had the 2nd most applicants in the country this year only behind UCLA

I wish people would shut up about the social life. If getting drunk every weekend affects your decision in which school to attend for the next four years, well ...

With that in mind, SD's "lacking" social life isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's an unfortunate association people have with the school. Not everyone at Berkeley or Santa Cruz is a liberal hippie, not everyone at Santa Barbara has an STD, etc..

Definitely pick UCSD.

But...

No need to bash SDSU. I know plenty of smart friends attending SDSU this year, though imo they are the minority of the campus. Sure there may be a large portion of students that just do not care or those that create a bad rep for the school (the drug bust last year), but there are still going to be smart students attending the school, like any college, who will go on to be very successful in their lives.

And Arctic, having the most applicants does not make the school a good school... It is popular because 1) it is in San Diego 2) It is a sports college 3) It is cheap. IMO, SDSU's statistics are artificially high, because everyone outside of San Diego think SDSU is on par with the UCs or better.
