Hi, so I got into UCSD as an environmental systems major, and UCI as an environmental engineering major(I’ll switch to Mechanical Engineering if I decide to attend). I am having trouble deciding between the two schools because UCSD is a much more prestigious school, but the environmental systems major itself is only 11 years old, while Engineering seems like a much more solid major.

I know that it is POSSIBLE to switch to engineering major after like the first year at UCSD, but it is not guranteed, so I am really hesitant.

As a career I want to be involved in helping solve sustainability issues and I heard that you can do that as a mechanical engineer(for example making solar panels, wind turbines, etc.) and engineering really just seem much more of a safer career path.

If any of you guys can give me tips, that would be great.
Thanks!
