collegemom can you tell me what was wrong with sixth dorm and their GE? I was admitted to sixth as well but haven't been able to visit the college yet so I can't choose yet

They have a requirement called CAT that did not interest her at all. She went and stayed at the campus three different times and so she got a feel for how remote the sixth dorms are from campus and did not care for their whole camp snoopy feel. Overall she just could not envision herself living and studying at UCSD for four years. Go visit is all I will keep saying. She could not make any decisions until she did and then it was relatively easy. Try to make pro and con lists and really think about what is important to you.

Not everyone who has a scholarship is in the CHP and vice versa..although they obviously go together a lot of the time..just for the record..

UCI was my safety but I intent to go there mainly because of the CHP and the Chancellor scholarship (free tuition for 4 years). Like Shoefactory, I plan to go to medical school. UCI's CHP/pre-med has VERY GOOD reputation with top notch medical schools.

I picked UCI over UCLA, UCB, UCSD, USC & Boston's Dean scholarship.

What's CHP? Their honor program? I'm so clueless because I'm not in there.

Im completely torn right between the two. I went to UCI today for a tour and the campus seemed very relaxing and tranquil. I also enjoyed the dorms at UCI and the huge 24 hour fitness- like complex in the back of the campus for the students.
I really dont know what I want to be yet but I am leaning towards business. Obviously, UCI would be the better pick in this situation. I didnt get honors at UCI however and to attend either school would cost approximately the same for me.
it is completeley 50-50..gaahhhhhhhh i cant sleep.

hmm i'm debating on UCSD and UCI too. i want to major in math. the thing that makes the decision so much harder is that i got in as a winter admit in UCSD and a fall admit in UCI. winter admits can't get on-campus housing, so we gotta get off-campus housing, and we gotta take community college classes to not get behind and have as many credits as the fall admits or even more. but i went to UCSD on admit day, and i really liked it there. i went to UCI in my own time, and it was just bleh. but i dunno... i don't even know how much UCSD is giving me. hard choice, no? :(

Pick the school you will like more in the end. It seems like you're leaning towards UCSD so I'd try to evaluate that favor and see if you want to go there. You might be behind going to UCSD but there is an entire 4 years with summers to catchup. There's no rush to finish college. Enjoy your time there while you can.

That's good advice from Jason. As for housing there are always freshman who end up dropping out due to grades or other factors. Will you be able to get your name on a dorm waiting list for one of these spots when it opens up?

collegemom: when i went to UCSD admit day, i went to the lecture for winter admits. i asked the people who were in charge of this, and they told me that it was a 100% guarantee i won't get to dorm, even if i put myself on the waiting list. so i'm definitely not going to take my chances, and instead look for other places to live.

and to jason: yeah, i've been getting the same response from many of my friends. some just say straight out UCSD only because it's prestigious, but right now, prestige doesn't really matter. what matters [more] is which school has the environment i want, and whether UCSD or UCI will give me opportunities. i just feel like UCSD will give me more opportunities, especially if i want to get into math. i'm also thinking about studying some opthalmology. but thanks, jason. i'm really sticking to UCSD... i'll only have to suffer for a few months, and the rest will be normal. you're right. :)

soybrains that's too bad about the 100%. Have you come across any other winter admits on here? Perhaps you could find a roommate that way. Maybe you will get really lucky and a fall spot will open up for you. Either way good luck and best wishes. :)

i chose uci over ucsd because uci supposely is making a business major for undergrad and i just liked how uci layout is compared to ucsd where its all spread apart. i also like the dorms better. The only think about ucsd is the prestige. In the end its all personal choice

I am a recent UCI graduate (I chose UCI over UCSD) and I can tell you, the "prestige" thing for UCSD over UCI doesnt really exist. If you were to compare UCB and UCI, then yes, UCB is more prestigious but the ranking difference between UCSD and UCI is about 6 spots... not really enough to have a "prestige" factor. It also doesnt matter in the workforce.

As for a business major, yes it was officially approved at UCI and it looks like they will start admitting students into this major in 2008 or they will apply as "pre business" majors and transfer in as juniors like they do at Haas at UCB. Because of the demand, I would expect it to be extremely competitive.
