I got into UCSD with a major in Biochem and Cell Bio and into UCLA with a major in Cell/Molecular/Developmental Biology and I'm planning on going pre-med and eventually medical school. Problem is, I'm 50/50 between both. Cost and distance are pretty much the same. UCLA has its name and prestige, but UCSD has the better bio program yes? Which one is more likely to get me into medical school, has more research/activities? And which one is easier to get a high GPA at?

From what I’ve heard, UCSD would be the better option if you want to go to medical school. The difference in prestige isn’t really that big, especially when it comes to biology (I think UCSD is actually ahead in bio) I’ve asked friends that have gone to UCSD and they say that there are plenty of research opportunities at hospitals and other facilities on campus. Of course, I don’t know that many UCLA people, so I can’t speak for the other side.

Go to UCSD.

I vote UCSD.

Half the battle of getting to med school is the competition and here a lot of pre-meds are ill-suited for the track and won’t get into medical school. UCSD places a lot of emphasis and invests lots of resources in biology, as well as offering plenty of lab positions and research opportunities.
