UCSD vs. UCSB?

So May 1st is coming around the corner and I have to make a decision to either attend UCSD or UCSB. For UCSD I was accepted as a cognitive science major (which I know they are amazing for), and UCSB I was accepted for biopsychology. I have visited both campuses and I really like both of them, distance/cost-wise they are virtually the same for me. I’m just torn between picking prestige/academics and social life. UCSD is ranked better and is known to have better academics (and the program I have been accepted into is great) but I can’t get past the ‘socially dead’ reputation. I visited the campus this past weekend and I loved it but it was so EMPTY like nobody was there. UCSB, on the other hand, is known to have a much better social atmosphere (apart from the extreme partying), but I am not sure if a degree from there would look as good as UCSD? Also I don’t know if the internship/research opportunities there are as great.
Basically, is UCSD really socially dead? and does UCSB have a good biopsychology program?

Congratulation on both admissions!

UCSB’s reputation as a party school is somewhat unfair. It’s a very reputable school and I have heard good things about their biopsych program. A degree from there looks very good.

I think you will find friends at any campus. But you’re right that UCSB has a more relaxed atmosphere. Go with the campus where you feel more comfortable. You have two very good options.
