For bioengineering, UCSD's the place. For Physics, UCSB's better. Both schools are great and are gaining more fame through several Noble Prize winners recently (at least UCSB has). What is your major?

UCSB is a lot more fun.

oh, my major is sociology

if you like to party ucsb is a great choice. i hear ucsd can be very boring in terms of social life

im not a really big partier, is there anything else to do at ucsb?

or is ucsd better in terms of clubs and things to do?

UCSB is the only college in America with a private beach.

As UCSB is a public institution it cannot by definition have a private beach.

sd is okay if u are 21 or older to get into the clubs. besides its not even in sd, its about 15-20 mins from the downtown action. ucsds campus life isnt very fun either

thanks for the replies...

so far im leaning towards ucsb, but its pretty expensive and im receiving very little financial aid.

and on another note,
how culturally diverse would you say the campus is?

Go to UCSB! It is a great experience. Go visit friends at UCSD while you are a freshman at UCSB, you will likely see the difference and vice versa. UCSD has a better academic reputation overall but the intangibles are seriously better at UCSB at least from my experience.

I heard UCSB is nicknamed UC-STD because its filled with jocks and chicks who party all day and most girls get STDs. If you want a good education, UCSD is on the rise in terms of academic focus and has good bio programs/research/academic focus. UCSB is basically a party school.

http://www.ucsb.edu/ <--How can one work studiously in that type of environment?
